Reviewed components of the handout including educational benefits,main areas of responsibility, having a voice with questions pertaining to school budget,legal responsibilities, elements of the school improvement plan,suggested operating practices such as number of meetings, voting,potential formation of subcommittees,open meeting law,and review of how school councils can maximize their representativeness. The council members discussed best practices to communicate information pertaining to school council. Preferred methods of communication were discussed such as Edline and social media/twitter. Discussion focused on cleaning up Edline including removing clutter and keeping the communication up to date. Student lack Bloom suggested weekly updates/blast to Edline along with student email updates. Student representatives voiced that some prefer using their personal email versus school email for communication. Two handouts of RMHS initiatives for 2014-2015 were reviewed by council members. Principal Adam Bakr explained the initiatives including DDMs,Curriculum Mapping,MISS,PLCs, Math Support Center, TSP/SSP, Rocket Bell, Rocket Revolution,and the state mandated Discipline and Attendance Law. one student member indicated that he uses the Math Resource Center on a daily basis and finds this resource very valuable. A parent expressed more communication pertaining to clarity of math paths/tracks and better communication that brings awareness of the math resource program to parents. Principal Adam Bakr asked council members for input on area(s)for improvement. Communicate and clarity on various concerns was expressed by parents and students such as staff members understanding what an EPP Plan is for students who do not pass MCAS and ensuring the implementation of accommodations for students on an EPs. Parents expressed continuing to find ways to build community and involvement. One member commented on how well rounded we are as a school community with student involvement in extra curricula activities. Another council member indicated the need to emphasize and celebrate the Arts(feel in the shadow). Lastly,the members discussed the Thanksgiving Football Pep Rally and the need to promote school spirit equitably. Council members want to see all groups represented and recognized versus the current practice. Respectfully Submitted by Shelley Lynch
