Topics:
Role of Student Council: Handout was given to the group with discussion on role of the Schmol D
Council Board. Board focused on the purpose of School Council including budget priority areas for
the school,school improvement plan, and student handbook. A major focus for the group will be to
review and revise the student handbook.
NEAS : Faculty representative Danielle Theissen explained to the group the NEASC self-study
report prepared in relation to the standards. NEASC reviewed the high school self-assessment
report and confirmed the report findings.
Student Handbook: Discussion by council on the need for revisions to the student handbook. The plan is to
divide into subgroups and complete a deep read noting areas needing revisions. The plan is to share out at
the December meeting observations, suggestions,and questions. RMHS faculty will also provide feedback
on progress and a later time. The first draft of the student handbook is scheduled for May of 2020 with
revisions made in June of 2020. Legal counsel will need to review the handbook as well. Lastly,the School
Committee will need to review the student handbook for approval or changes in July of 2020. Principal Kate
Boynton projected the student handbook table of contents categories such as academics,student support,
attendance, and so forth. School Council members discuss the student handbook format and user
friendliness and understanding of the handbook. There was some discussion on the need to create a vision
of the RMHS graduate and for the core values to support that vison. Group discussed having Student
Council,World of Difference,Class Officers work on examples of core values. Faculty representative Shelley
Lynch suggested adding ethical behavior and making the right choices.
