Topics of Discussion:
• Ask DPW if they can place gravel in the depression along the access road to the Pilot
Thinning area.
• Schedule the Public Hearing for the Pilot Thinning.
• Next Meeting: Will be on January 7, 2020
Joined the Conservation Committee Hearing at 7:00 pm to discuss the permitting for the Pilot
Thinning project.
Concerns raised by Conservation Commission
o What is the plan if the thinning work is not completed before March when
migration begins from the vernal pools?
o Specify March 6 as end date for project as earliest migration starts March 11.
May apply for extension of needed and if ground is frozen. Feb 26 Conservation
meeting may be the time to revisit the schedule.
o Soil disturbance and erosion on causeway will be mitigated if work completed
while the ground is frozen.
o What about Reforestation?
o Forester said this is a very good year for acoms. Thinning will result in naturally
high oak saplings.
o How is debris going to be cleaned up? By logger.
o Vernal pools along the causeways, stand 45 near treatment area is most
sensitive and of most concern and needs greater erosion control
o Need to find out from Natural Heritage if we are exempt from MESA review. Get
an email from them to ConCom. Natural Heritage 508-389-6360
