Review and vote on minutes from the January 8,2020,meeting. • Some conversation about grammar not noted on the previous minutes...discussion from previous meeting focused on a feedback loop between the varying grade levels. • Christine Lusk motioned to accept the minutes; Sherilla Lestmde second. Motion passed unanimously. 2. School Happenings • Geography Bee-winner Declan Wilkes will take a test to see if he will compete in the state geography bee • Adam Hickey from Landmark Consulting 2/3 &2/4 observed 8 teachers and was observed by several others giving feedback. 3. School Improvement Plan Update Building Connections and Empathy • Advisory themes revised and resources organized in a much more user friendly format (Summer 2019 Committee) • Advisory providing opportunity for supporting social media use(assemblies for each grade level complete), Challenge Day,personal goals meetings(How's It Going- supposed to be happening quarterly but haven't done Q2 yet),post Angst activity and call for support • Survey administered in advisory through Jan 28 (subgroup results compiled yet) • Using new data dashboard to look closely at subgroups(high needs and economically disadvantaged)prior to all students-interventions are put into place as needed(and documented) Page 1 1 • Stepped up communication with and meetings with families of students with attendance issues Inclusive Practices • Summer committee planned professional development time for the year(regarding inclusive practices) • All teachers have an inclusive practice goal using the "build your own adventure" template created by the committee • Adam Hickey, from Landmark Consulting,observed 8 teachers across content areas and grade levels while principal and 3 teachers(who have been observed by him in previous years)observed him give feedback to those teachers. We developed a list of positive trends and a list of trends that can be addressed using inclusive practices.Adam returned in early February to observe and give feedback to the same teachers again. • We did NOT do structured instructional rounds this year due to lack of subs and subs needed for other PD and Adam Hickey work. • Intervention tracker being used consistently-now we need to work on data for being released from intervention • Grade 6 teachers completed second day of Writer's Workshop training at the end of January • Math strategies based on November meeting time -teachers usinglactivating either a reference section in their binder or interactive notebook(using table of contents), integrating cumulative material into lessons and assessments until mastery(or some other method of addressing concepts not mastered) • FLA strategies based on November meeting time -we have had two meetings(one with all ELA and one with both ELA/SS to talk about writing and establish a common practice when responding to writing prompts. This is still in progress. • Science strategies based on November meeting time- all science teachers are working together to create review materials for grade 8 based on what they taught at each grade level. Grade 7 teachers are going to review topics with 8th grade that they taught in grade 7 (teacher swap). Grade 6 will do the same next year • Have not yet revisited our new family/student plan • Making progress on curriculum guides • Math pilot data has all been collected and is being reviewed for next steps • Principal attended achievement gap workshops and is working on plans with both RMHS and Coolidge • Feifer assessments for reading and math have been purchased and used several times for regular ed intervention diagnostics Equity • PD with Karen Hall on Equity during two early release days in January • Late January/Early February building leadership team will analyze attendance data and determine next steps • Restorative practices building wide work has been delayed(but some staff have been participating in a book group and working on practices in their own classrooms) • Staff/student surveys will be completed by Jan 28 (PD,inclusive practices,advisory, relationships, support,etc) • Student survey asked for student name so we can look at subgroup data Page 12 4. Student Survey Data Student Survey Results Inclusive Practices • What data are we looking at and with what intent? • Make Observations o Lots of consistency across grade levels o Some lower numbers around P grade answers about adults and peer regarding treat each other with respect 0 7'^grade involvement in after school activities is lower o Low percentage of helpfulness on exit tickets and do now(conversation already happening across the building) 0 8"grade high percentages for teacher positive feedback,agenda on the board, help from teachers o Lower%of helpfulness for teachers greeting students at the door 0 8th grade low on re-teaching/review of previous concepts • Make Statements • Ask Why? • Consider possible answers 5.
