HomeMy WebLinkAbout1979-06-25 Board of Public Works Minutes June 25, 1979 ' Meeting of the Board of Public Works convened in the Audi- torium of the Community Center, 52 Sanborn Street in Reading, Massachusetts at 7:30 P. M. Present were Secretary Cowell , Board Members DeHart and Wood and Superintendent Louanis. The Board signed the following: a) Bill Roll dated June 29, 1979 b) Pay Roll for the period ending June 22, 1979 c) Contract 79-9 - Contract for Furnishing and Installing a Time Sharing Water and Sewer Billing and Administra- tive Computer System for Reading Department of Public Works The Board approved salary schedule for FY-80 as presented by the Superintendent. Superintendent Louanis called the Board' s attention to an error in the total bid price as reported in the minutes of the meeting of May 29th on caustic soda. The unit price of $7.50 per 100 lbs. , however, was correct. Mr. Cowell , acting as Chair- man, requested that this be placed on the agenda for the next meeting and be discussed at that time. Mrs. Wood read notice of public hearing regarding the peti- tion of the Boston Gas Company for gas main locations in order that they may install regulator pits and related piping on Summer Avenue at Main Street and replace existing regulator pits on Main Street at Haven Street. Mr. Kurchian represented the Boston Gas Company and explained in detail how Boston Gas Company proposed to accomplish the work involved and reasons for it. Mr. DeHart moved, Mrs. Wood seconded and it was voted to close the hearing. Mr. DeHart moved to grant permission to the Boston Gas Company for the installation of regulator pits and related piping on Summer Avenue at Main Street as shown on the plan dated March 5, 1979 and replace existing regulator pits on Main Street at Haven Street. Mrs. Wood seconded the motion and it was voted. Superintendent Louanis, as Clerk of the Board, signed the Order for Gas Main Location, Mrs. Wood read notice of public hearing regarding the petition of the Town of Reading Municipal Light Department to install 4 - 5" PVC conduit encased in concrete from existing pole 31/32 on Grove Street; and, to install 2 - 5" steel con- duits from existing manhole on Lowell Street to existingpole ' 183/4 Barrows Road approximately 21 feet on Barrows Road. Mr. Paul Carson represented the Municipal Light Department and re- viewed both proposed installations. Mr. DeHart moved that the Municipal Light Department be given permission to install facilities on Barrows Road and Grove Street as stated on the individual petitions. Mrs. Wood seconded 'the motion and it was voted. The Board signed the Order for Location of Underground _ Conduits and Conductors on Grove Street as shown on Plan - Loca- tion No. 1516 dated June 6, 1979 and Order for Location of Under- ground Conduits and Conductors on Barrows Road as shown on Plan Location No. 1515 dated June 5, 1979. It was moved, seconded and voted tosign commitment letter: Sewer House Connection Betterment in the amount of $400.00 and Sewer Frontage Betterment in the amount of $335.20 or a total commitment in the amount of $735.20. Action on dump fees for FY-80 and sewer lateral fee for FY-80 was tabled. ' Mr. DeHart moved to adjourn the meeting at 8:00 P.
