HomeMy WebLinkAbout1979-05-29 Board of Public Works Minutes May 29, 1979 Meeting of the Board of Public Works convened in Room 131 , Reading Memorial High School at 7:30 P. M. Present were Chairman Price, Secretary Cowell , Board Members Testa, DeHart and Wood, Superintendent Louanis and Finance Com- mittee Member Metcalf. Mr. Cowell moved, Mr. DeHart seconded and it was voted to accept the minutes of May 14 as submitted. Mr. Cowell moved, Mr. DeHart seconded and it was voted to table discussion on the bids for the computer. The Board reviewed bids received on April 12, 1979 for 40,000 lbs liquid chlorine and 16,000 gallons of 12'La6 sodium hypochlorite in 30-gallon drums, per gallon, as follows: Firm Liquid Chlorine Sodium Hypochlorite per 100 lbs. per gallon Crystal Chemical No bid 405/gallon Fields Point Chemical $ 17.95/100 lb. No bid E & F King & Co. , Inc. 23.00/100 lb. .485/gallon George Mann & Co. No bid .6525/gallon Whittaker (N.E.Chemical ) $ 20.00/100 lb. .43/gallon Mr. Cowell moved, Mr. DeHart seconded and it was voted to award the contract for liquid chlorine to Fields Point Chemical at the bid price of $17.95 per 100 lbs. , or a total contract price of $7, 180. Mr. Cowell moved, Mr. DeHart seconded and it was voted to award the contract for sodium hypochlorite to Crystal Chemical and Packing Company, Inc. at the bid price of $0.405 per gallon or a total bid of $6,480. The Board reviewed bids received on April 12, 1979 for 128,900 gallons of ferric chloride and 140,000 gallons of caustic soda, as follows: Firm Ferric Chloride Caustic Soda Borden and Remington No bid $152.00/ton 7.60/100 lbs. Fields Point 13.95/100 lbs No bid George Mann & Co. No bid $159.00/ton ' 7.95/100 lbs. E & F King & Co. 10. 18/100 lbs 7.695/100 lbs. Whittaker Corp. (N.E.Chemical ) No bid 7.90/100 lbs. Mr. Cowell moved, Mr. DeHart seconded and it was voted to award the contract for ferric chloride to E. & F. King and Company at the bid price of $10. 18 per 100 lbs. or a total bid price of $13, 122.02. It was then moved by Mr. Cowell , seconded by Mr. DeHart to , award the contract for caustic soda to Borden and Remington Corp. , the low bidder at the bid price of $7.60 per 100 lbs. or a total contract price of $10,641 .40. The Board reviewed the proposed sodium notice to the Water Department customers and it was decided to review the notice in- dividually and discuss it at the next meeting to be held on June 4th. The Board reviewed Order and Petition for Joint or Identical Pole Locations together with Plan as presented by the N. E. Tele- phone and Telegraph Company and the Town of Reading Municipal Light Department. It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the 14 locations on Red Gate Lane and the single location on Pennsylvania Avenue. Superintendent Louanis signed the Order.
