Their Good Turn slogan is carried out in their conservation work in the Forest . The following members were present : George B. Perry , Chairman Irving E. Diokey,Jr. , Vice Chairman Benjamin E. Nichols, Secretary The minutes of the meetin(, of oebruary 21, 1979 were read and approved . It was voted that the Secretary write the Town;.Acoountant, Raphael W. McDonald , with a request for him to encumber the funds in our account as of June 30, 1979 in the amount of $1,876.43 so that these funds will be contirued into the next fiscal period . The serious gypsy moth problem in the Town Forest was discussed. Irving E. Dickey, Jr. has discussed this with the Board-of Health, the Conservation Commission , the Finance Committee , and the Superintendent of Pest Contral of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We plan to bring this problem -before the Subsequent Town Meeting in November 1979. Irving E. Dickey , Jr, will check on the costs of apraying. Approximately one hundred red pine trees were out in the Town Forest by the Department of Public Warks, as approved in our meeting on February 21, 1979. - In order to prevent root rot , Irving E. Dickey ,Jr. will obtain the approval to hire a man to spray the stumps with borax. He will ask Timothy Slbillane to do this work. ' The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 P.M. March 2, 1980 1:00 P.M. Nichols, Secretary The minutes of the meeting of June 20, 1979 were reed 89 and approved. The annual report to the Tbwn was discussed, and signed. It was voted to confirm the acts of the individual members since the last meeting. The committee reorganized and.the following officers were re-elected: George B. Perry, Chairman ' Irving, E. Dickey, Jr., Vice Chairman Benjamin E. Nichola, Secretary The infestation and control of gypsy moths in the Town Forest was discussed. -It Is expected this subject will again come before the next town meeting. It was voted that the Town .FArest Committee will take the same position regarding the manner of handlinv this problem as is taken by the Superintendent of Moth Work of the Town of Reading. It was voted that Benjamin E. Nichols will arrange to have 1000 maps printed of the 'ID wn Forest. The meeting was adjourned at 1:15 P.M. Mare} 2, 1980 ANNUAL REPORT OF THE TOWN FOREST COMMITTEE To the Citizens of Reading: We submit our report forthe year 1979, a nd through the current date. Guided tours of the Forest were given by a member of the Committee for several youth groups. Boy Scouts continued to camp and hike in the Forest throughout the year, and carried out their Good Turns by doing various conservation projects. The Board of fl}blic Works cut approximately one hundred mature red pine trees, which will be used as car - bumpers at various Town playgrounds. The infestation and control of gypsy, moths in the Town ' Forest and environs has been discussed and 'voted upon at the Subsequent Town meeting in November 1979.
