Meeting of the Board of Public Works convened in Room 131
at Reading Memorial High School at 7: 15 P. M.
Present were Chairman Dustin, Secretary Price, Board Mem-
bers Russell , Cowell and Testa and Superintendent Louanis.
The Board reviewed Petition from some of the residents of
Willow Street regarding their objection to Austin Preparatory
School acquiring the land and the Willow Street Pumping Station.
They felt the land would be better developed for residences
than by Austin Preparatory School . The Board also reviewed
previous correspondence between the Board of Public Works,
Austin Preparatory School and the Board of Selectmen. Several
interested citizens expressed their opinion favoring the re-
moval of the sewer station. Mr. Price moved to continue as
previously planned and instruct the contractor to raze the
station in accordance with the contract agreement. There was
no second.
The Board instructed the Superintendent to contact the
' Board of Selectmen and inform them of the planned action and
request a written response on their concerns about the station' s
demolition. The Board would take definitive action on this sub-
ject at the next regularly scheduled meeting.
The Board read the communication concerning the Heritage
Club' s participation in elected town office position for the
day planned for June 12, 1978. The Board agreed to participate
in this endeavor and invite those children involved to the
June 12, 1978 meeting to participate in the Board' s actions.
The Board adjourned to Town Meeting at 7:50 P. M.
