HomeMy WebLinkAbout1978-05-22 Board of Public Works Minutes May 22, 1978 Meeting of the Board of Public Works convened in Room 103 at the Parker Junior High School at 7: 15 P.M. Present were Chairman Dustin, Secretary Price, Board Mem- bers Russell and Testa and Superintendent Louanis. Minutes of the meetings of May 15th and 18th were accepted as presented. Read letter from Ronald J. O'Neil of 13 Tennyson Road re- questing permission to block off and occupy Tennyson Road from 1 :00 P. M. to 11 :00 P. M. on Saturday, June 17th in order that the neighbors might hold an annual cookout. Following a brief discussion it was moved, seconded and voted to grant permission subject to the standard provisions relative to alcoholic beverages, liability insurance and the condition of the street at the conclu- sion of the event. Read letter from John T. McHugh of the Parker Junior High School American Heritage Club requesting permission to hold an ' Annual Flag Day Program on the Reading Common, Wednesday, June 14th, 1978 from 7:00 P. M. until sunset: also, requesting that Lowell Street between Salem and Woburn Streets be closed from 5: 30 P. M. to 8:30 P. M. It was moved, seconded and voted to grant permission and to block off the public way as requested provided no alcoholic beverages be served within the public way, the public way and the area be policed and properly cleaned at the conclusion of the event and proper liability insurance be obtained. The Superintendent reported to the Board he had received a request from the Police Department to make some signs regard- ing drinking on public property and have them installed at Birch Meadow, Washington, Sturges and Memorial Parks. It was moved, seconded and voted to direct the Superintendent to comply with the request of the Police Department. The Board signed the Pay Roll for the period ending May 19th ' and the Bill Roll dated May 26, 1978.
