Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened in the Audi-
torium of the Community Center at 7:30 P. M.
Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as written.
Chairman Dustin announced that the Public Works Depart-
ment and the Board of Public Works will conduct a tour for the
Finance Committee and any others who wished to join the group
at the Public Works Garage, 181 John Street at 9:,30 A.M. on
February 4, 1978.
The Sub-Committee had reviewed the Cost Analysis of the
Sanitation Division as prepared by the Engineering Division
and weighed the advantages and disadvantages of the six options
available to the Town for the disposal of solid waste. The
Sub-Committee instructed the Engineering Division to develop
further data and to advertise bids for the total disposal of
the rubbish from the Town to get information in order to pro-
vide the Board with sufficient factual data to enable the Board
to make a final decision. It was also agreed a special meeting
for the full Board would be scheduled to discuss the solid waste
problem.
Superintendent Louanis reviewed briefly the status of the
Snow and Ice Account. It was then moved, seconded and voted to
place an Article in the Warrant for the Special Town Meeting to
be held February 27, 1978 to provide us with the option for addi-
tional funds if needed for Snow and Ice.
Secretary Price read Notice of Public Hearing at 7:45 P.M.
on the laying out as Public Ways under the Betterment Act the
following streets: Field Pond Drive, Chequessett Road, Bain—
bridge Road and Lisa Lane. Chairman Dustin outlined to those
present the reason for the Hearing and opened the meeting to
questions from the floor. The Superintendent and the Board Mem—
bers answered the questions posed by those present. Chairman
Dustin requested that each abutter cast a vote either in favor
or in opposition to the acceptance of the street abutting his
or her property. Members of the Engineering Division remained
to answer technical questions and the Board adjourned — recon—
vening in Room 16 at 8:45 in the Town Hall .
The Board signed the Pay Roll for the period ending January
27th and the Bill Roll dated February 3d, 1978. ,
The Board then began a review of the Budget for FY-79
covering Administration, Engineering and Highway: these sec—
tions were approved as presented by the Superintendent and the
Board adjourned at 10:20 P.M. to meet at 7:30 P.M. on January
31st, 1978. At this time the Board reviewed and approved the
following:
Sidewalk Construction
Parking Areas
Storm Drain
Drain Construction
Equipment Maintenance
Parks and Playgrounds
Forestry Division
Sewer Maintenance
Discussion of the Municipal Incinerator and Rubbish Collection
accounts was postponed and it was agreed the discussion of the
Sewer House Connection account would continue at the meeting
scheduled February 6, 1978.
