HomeMy WebLinkAbout1963-12-30 Board of Public Works Minutes 153 December 30, 1963 ' Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. in Room 16, Municipal Building. Present were Chairman Watt, Secretary Kenney, Board Members Cochrane and Leonard, Assistant Superintendent Watson and Town Engineer E. R. Louanis. Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved as amended. Read note from the Superintendent listing bidders on the Control and Monitoring System for the Reading Water Depart- ment. It was agreed that due to the size of the bid, it would not be necessary to confer with the two low bidders. Mr. Leonard moved that the contract be awarded to the low bidder, R. W. Jones Electrical Company, Inc., contingent upon receiving favorable credit rating and meeting all other re- quirements of the Board; Mr. Cochrane seconded and it was voted. Read letter from Weston & Sampson regarding final pay- ment due for engineering in excess of fee under negotiated con- tract in the amount of $6,053. 14, and their explanation thereof. A short discussion followed. It was moved, seconded and voted to hold the matter in abeyance. All factual data will be accumu- lated and presented to the Board for consideration. Read letter from Cleverdon, Varney & Pike stating that they were proceeding with the Study of the Municipal Garage and land at 181 John Street, generally in accordance with the so- called Duty Specifications. 154 Mr. Cochrane moved that the letter be placed in the active file; Mr. Kenney seconded and it was voted. Reed letter from Rev. George F. Burnell, O.S.A. , Rector, Austin Preparatory School, requesting that the Town plow the roadway leading from Willow Street to Austin Preparatory School on the occasion of such snowfall as would render the road- way impassable to vehicular traffic. Mr. Leonard moved that the Superintendent draft a let- ter to be signed by the Chairman stating that after full con- sideration of the available facts and a comparison of the Austin Preparatory Schools situation with the other schools in the Town, the Board feels that it cannot grant the request that the Town remove the snow from the driveways and parking areas on the School property; Mr. Cochrane seconded and it was voted. The Board signed the Billroll dated December 27,1963; also 1963 Commitment Sheets as follows: - Water Mains Street Betterments Sidewalk Assessments Sidewalks and Curbing House Connection Construction - Sewerage Frontage Meeting adjourned at 8:40 P.M.
