Regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened
at 7:30 P.M. in Room 16, Municipal Building.
Present were Secretary Watt, Board Members Brown,
Florence and Kenney, and Superintendent Welch.
Mr. Watt acted as Chairman in the absence of Mr.
Hodson; Mr. Florence acted as Secretary.
Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved.
Corrected copy of the Capital Expenditures report
was presented to each Board Member. It was accepted as a point
of information.
Read note from the Superintendent suggesting the clos-
ing of the Board of Public Works office on Monday, December 241
with the understanding that in case of inclement weather, and
snowplowing is necessary, all male employees will be required to
work a normal day.
Mr. Florence moved that the office be closed on Decem-
ber 24 as recommended by the Superintendent, Mr. Kenney seconded
and it was voted.
Mr. Hodson arrived and joined the Board Members.
The Board held a general discussion on the various
reports.
Mr. Welch advised the Board that copies of the 1963
Budget will be available at the next meeting for examination.
The Board reviewed the Dump report and expressed con-
cern regarding the unusual material which is being deposited at
the Dump.

Mr. Florence moved that a letter be written to the
Board of Selectmen and acted upon at the next Board Meeting sug-
gesting specific recommendations as to what restrictions shall
be placed on the Dump and requesting their approval; Mr. Kenney
seconded and the motion carried.
It was suggested that Maurice Donegan be allowed to use
the Ordway or Taylor pit for disposal of stumps and trees. Also
discussed was the matter of disposition of funds received from
dump permits and the possible acceptance by Goodall-Sanford of
the proposition regarding dumping to be submitted to them.
The Board discussed in detail the several factors con-
tained in Water System Report, including distribution mains,
pumping stations, automation, storage, etc. Particular attention
was paid to the proposed future program of improvements, the
methods of financing and the possibility of raising the water
rates.
The Board also discussed the problems attendant to plac-
ing the new treatment plant in operation and the problem of the
water having a -slightly offensive odor and taste in a somewhat
restricted area of the Town.
