1 Regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
L 7:30 P.M. in Room 16, Municipal Building.
Present were Chairman Hodson, Secretary Watt, Board
Members Brown, Florence and Kenney, and Superintendent Welch.
Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved as
amended.
The Board discussed the report on Utilities at Indus-
trial Areas as prepared by the Superintendent. This data will
be presented to the Planning Board at a joint meeting on
November 19.
Read letter from the Recreation Committee regarding
play area on Franklin Street. Mr. Watt, Member of the Recreation
Committee, informed the Board that the aforementioned Committee
favored the figure of $200.00 for mowing and rolling the two
small areas. Mr. Watt moved that the $200.00 be included in the
Park Department budget, Mr. Kenney seconded and the motion car-
ried.
Read note from the Superintendent regarding rubbish
disposal by Goodall-Sanford. The Board discussed the kind and
amount of rubbish disposed of during the course of a year.
Mr. Watt moved that the Board of Public Works permit
Goodall-Sanford to use the Reading Dump for rubbish disposal and
the Company be advised that the Board would consider $5.00 a
load for unusual material or an option of $7,500.00 a year. The
Board reserves the right at any time to review this option and
make any adjustments on a 30, 60 or 90-day notice. Goodall-
Sanford may request a change in the above agreement because of
business conditions; Mr. Kenney seconded and it was voted.
Messrs. Welch and Florence will confer with Mr. Shea,
President, in the near future.

No action was taken on the Dump Report and Water System
Report.

NOTES: (1) Make study for increasing capacity of main outfall sewer and extend inter-
ceptors to Salem Street and Charles Street Area and to Sturges Park Area,
Estimated costs not now known.
(2 ) For 1965, includes underground pumping station at Sturges Park.
(3) A bond issue for sewer interceptors. This is a very rough estimate. 1963
study will establish a much better estimate.
(4) 1963 income would be normal reimbursements from State and County of- $27 900
plus $28,778.54 from Chapter 782 of 1962.
(5) For grading, loaning and seeding, the presently ungraded area of Birch
Meadow lying west and south of Birch Meadow Drive (Skating Area to Football
Field) .
(6) Conduct study of need and cost of Incinerator.
(7) Very rough estimate of cost.
