HomeMy WebLinkAbout1962-06-18 Board of Public Works Minutes j June 18, 1962 Regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened r at 7:30 P.M. in Room 16, Municipal Building. Present were Chairman Hodson, Board Members Brown, Florence and Kenney, and Superintendent Welch. Minutes of the June 4 and June 11 meetings read and approved. Read note from Edward J. Resnik, 419 Grove Street, containing offer of $200.00 for piece of land with a 15-foot frontage easterly of his residence, now owned by the Water De- partment. It was suggested that if the Board should agree to recommend sale to the Town Meeting, it be stipulated that the title could not be transferred from Mr. Resnik to any other party for a period of ten years. Mr. Brown moved, Mr. Kenney on seconded and it was voted to postpone action for a week when a full Board will be present. Hearing was held at 8:00 P.M. for the purpose of tak- ing an Easement for water service through private property, easterly of Haverhill Street. Eugene S. Blanchard, owner of three lots at 379 Haverhill Street, had requested previously that Lots 1 and 3 be serviced from an easement through Lots 2 and 3. The request was approved by the Board on April 23, 1962. Present at the meeting were William R. Grace and James R.Boucher who had signed a quitclaim deed giving the right, privilege and easement to the Town of Reading to service Lots 1 and 3. j Mr. Kenney moved the easement be taken for public util- ity purposes; Mr. Florence seconded and the motion carried. 84 I The Board signed Order of Taking for the above ease- ment. (Refer to Plan 500-S-107) The Board signed the following: - Sidewalk Assessment - Middlesex Avenue - Bituminous Concrete ^ " - Middlesex Avenue - Cape Cod Avenue - Granolithic Payroll and Billroll for the period June 10 through June 16, 1962 Read note from the Superintendent requesting permission to take the following vacation periods: - June 23 through July 4 August 4 through August 19 Mr. Brown moved permission be granted; Mr. Kenney seconded and it was voted. Read note from Mr. Welch regarding Water Treatment Plant usage. A discussion followed. It was moved, seconded and voted to accept the data as a point of information. The Board met with Donald' L. Cummings of Metcalf & Eddy who presented incinerator pictures on slides. The pictures in- cluded views of incinerators in Boston, West Hartford, Conn. , Halifax, N. S. , Brookline, Lawrence, White Plains, N.Y. ,Woonsocket, R.I. , and Marblehead. Mr. Cummings described in each case the size, kind and number of furnaces; also tonnage of waste burned each day. A discussion ensued on composting plants. Mr. Cummings answered technical questions. Meeting adjourned at 9:15 P.M. Respectfully submitted, Secretary
