HomeMy WebLinkAbout1962-02-26 Board of Public Works Minutes 27 February 26, 1962 Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. in the Auditorium of the Community Center, 52 Sanborn Street. Present were Chairman Florence, Board Members Hodson, Watt and Brown and Superintendent Welch. Hearing was held regarding the proposed extension of the Sanitary Sewer in the following locations: - 1. WEST STREET from Oak Street to County Road 2. HARVARD STREET from Lowell Street to John Carver Road 3. SUPIIER AVENUE from Brook Street to Bear Hill Road 4. HANSCOM AVENUE from Lowell Street to No. 55 5. RIDGE ROAD from Main Street to Cold Spring Road 6. TMME-STAEET from Grand Street to Deering Street 7. WESTON ROAD from Hanscom Avenue to Winthrop Avenue 8. ESSEX STREET from Hartshorn Street to No. 9 9. PRISCILLA ROAD from Puritan Road to No. 31 10. PURIT N ROAD from John Carver Road to Lowell Street 11. OAK STREET from PineRidgeRoad to West Street 12. JOHN R R ROAD from Hartshorn Street to Priscilla Road 13. INTERCEPTOR, Puritan Road to Harvard Street Each person in attendance was given a form showing his/her frontage assessment, form on which to vote, illustration of typical sewer connection and application form for house connection. A discussion took place. A total of 109 persons attended the meeting with the voting as follows: - Non- In favor Opposed Committal 83 4 3 No action was taken. The Board and Superintendent moved to the Municipal Build- ing where they adjourned temporarily at 8:30 P.M. to meet as the Board of Survey. The Board reconvened at 8:40 P.M. i` A Hearing postponed from February 19, 1962 was held on the laying out as a Public Way under the Betterment Act of a Private c� ti Way known as Puritan Road which runs in an Easterly direction from John Carver Road, a distance of 227.00 feet more or less to Winthrop Avenue. .�. Four persons attended the meeting with voting as fol- lows: - In favor - 3; non-committal - 1. Mr. Watt moved that the Board recommend acceptance of Puritan (Private ) Road as a Public Way under the Betterment Act at the Annual Town Meeting; Mr. Brown seconded and it was voted. Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved. Read note from Superintendent regarding two offers to buy Town-owned land on the West side of John Street abutting Route 128 and his comments thereto. The prospective buyers are listed as Charles H. Stamatis and L. Grossman Sons, Inc. A dis- cussion followed. Mr. Watt moved the Superintendent advise the Selectmen that the Board of Public Works feels it should withhold any opin- ion relative to the sale of land off John Street at Route 128 pending outcome of long-range study of sewer, water, roads and storm drains; Mr. Hodson seconded and it was voted. Meeting scheduled for 9:00 P.M. with Mr. Bogren was postponed until March 5 at 8:00 P.M. because Mr. Bogren was unable to attend. Conference will be held with Mr. Bogren only as our agent. Read note from Mr. Welch regarding effective date of new classifications. It was accepted as information. Read note from Superintendent with reference to the park- ing of cars on or across sidewalks during snow storms. A discus- sion followed. Mr. Watt moved that cars parked on or across the side- r walks will be towed away providing they interfere with street plow- ing or sidewalk plowing but only after due notice is given by news items; Mr. Brown seconded and it was voted.
