HomeMy WebLinkAbout1962-02-19 Board of Public Works Minutes 2 February 19, 1962 Regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. in Room 16, Municipal Building. Present were Chairman Florence, Board Members Hodson and Watt and Superintendent Welch. Due to the somewhat severe snowstorm the Street Acceptance Hearing for a Portion of Puritan Road was postponed until 8:30 P.M. on February 26, 1962. Also, the conference with Mr. Bogren was postponed until 9:00 P.M. on February 26, 1962. Records of previous meeting read and approved as amended. Signed Payroll and Billroll for week ended February 17, 1962. Signed 1961 Chapter 90 Contract for Lowell Street and Salem Street. Contractor is the Essex Bituminous Concrete Corp- oration of Peabody. Signed Memorandum of Agreement between Town and State Department of Public Works covering 1961 Chapter 90 Construction contract. Considered letter from Selectmen stating they have re- ceived two offers to purchase Town-owned land on the Westerly side of John Street abutting Route 128 and requesting whether or not this Board has any interest in the land. It was moved, seconded and voted to postpone action on this matter for one week. Considered Estimate No. 6 for payment to James Construc- tion Company as submitted by the Consulting Engineers, Weston & Sampson. Dollar value of estimate indicates that 81 percent of the contract has been completed, including materials on site. Clerk of Works, Brendon Davis, estimates that 62 per- cent of the contract has been completed, including materials on job. It was moved, seconded and voted to withhold payment of estimate until it can be discussed with Mr. Bogren on Monday, February 26, 1962. Payment was withheld primarily because the differential between Estimate No. 6 as submitted is 19 percent higher than the estimate made by Mr. Davis and this exceeds the normal 10 percent retainage by a substantial amount. Received petition for sewer connection at 60-62 Sanborn Street. The Superintendent reported that a sewer does not exist in this section of Sanborn Street but that it is possible to make a lengthy connection to the sewer in Lowell Street. It was moved, seconded and voted to take the request under advisement and to hold a hearing for a sewer extension as soon as time permits. Meeting adjourned at 8:30 P.M. Respectfully submit ed, / I J
