Regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7 : 30 P.M. in Room 16, Municipal Building.
Present were Chairman Florence, Secretary Leonard, Board
Members Hodson, Watt and Brown and Superintendent Welch.
Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved.
Chairman read Item #2 on the Agenda pertaining to the
request by the Board of Public Works for a Special Town Meeting in
late January or early February for the purpose of appropriating
funds for sewer construction; and Item #6 regarding sewer extension
in Main Street south of Minot Street for proposed apartment house ;
and Mr. Welch' s comments.
A detailed discussion followed. It was agreed to con-
sider each item separately.
CMr. Watt moved that the Board request the Selectmen for
a Special Town Meeting in late January or early February for the
purpose of appropriating funds for sewer construction; Mr. Leonard
seconded and it was voted.
The Board considered the request for sewer extension in
Main Street. Mr. Watt moved that the request be denied at this
time and Mr. McGivern of Caleb Pierce be invited to confer with
the Board regarding the rejection of installation of the sewer.
Mr. Leonard seconded and the motion carried.
It was moved, seconded and voted to confer with the
Personnel Board, Monday night, January 8, at 7: 35 P .M.
Read note from the Superintendent regarding request from
the Selectmen that police officers assigned to snow removal receive
$2. 37$ per hour and Mr. Welch' s comments thereto. A discussion
followed.
Mr. Watt moved that the Chairman ask the Selectmen to
assign a police detail to the snow loader without cost to this De-
partment; Messrs. Brown and Leonard seconded and it was voted.
Read note from the Superintendent with reference to the
plowing of driveway located at 164 Grove Street and his recom-
mendation that future requests be denied. Conditions which prompted
this request were enumerated.
Mr. Watt moved, it was seconded and voted that no more
plowing will be done on property owned by private individuals with
town-owned equipment and a letter be sent to Mrs. Luther at the
above address to that effect.
The Board signed the Bill-roll and Pay-roll for the period
December 24 through December 30, 1961.
It was moved, seconded and voted to convene the meeting in
Executive Session.
The proposed 1962 Budget was discussed in detail. Several
particular items were given particular attention.
It was moved, seconded and voted to reconvene in open ses-
sion.
It was moved, seconded and voted to submit the proposed
1962 Budget as considered to the Town with the addition of the ac-
ceptance as a Public Way of a portion of Puritan Road from John
Carver Road to Winthrop Avenue .
The meeting adjourned at 10:30 P.M.
