Regular meeting of the Board of Public works opened at
L 7:30 P.M. in Room 16, Municipal Building.
Present were Chairman Florence,- Secretary Leonard, Board
Members Watt and Brown and Superintendent Welch.
Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved.
Read note from the Superintendent regarding sewer front-
age on land owned by the Revival Tabernacle Church on North Main
Street. The Church and part of the land have been sold to the
Church of the Nazarene; the house is being sold to a private indi-
vidual. The question brought before the Board for consideration is
whether or not to now assess sewer frontage on the house only. The
original assessment would have been in 1960.
Mr. Leonard moved the matter be referred to Town Counsel
for his opinion thereon; Mr. Watt seconded and it was voted.
Read letter from Mr. and Mrs. Roland Senecal, 58 Hartshorn
Street, voicing their appreciation for the consideration given them
by the installation of sewerage.
Copies of the Dump Usage Report as requested by Fir. Hodson
were presented to the Board Members; also, Incinerator Committee Re-
port as requested by Mr. Leonard.
The Board adjourned temporarily at 8:00 F.Fi. to meet as
the Board of Survey.
The Board reconvened at 8:25 P.M.
Read note from the Superintendent advising the Members
that the Personnel Board wishes to confit withthe Board of Public
Works on Wednesday Evening, January 3, 962. F Watt

` f4 regarding vacant Lots 54 and 55 on Arcadia Road. Due to the fact
that good footing material has been found at varying depths, con-

sideration is being given to the issuance of building permits. As
better soil conditions are at the rear of the lots, it was re-
quested that utilities be installed in an easement abutting the
rear property line. Mr. Leonard moved that the easement for the ,
utilities be a roved 11
approved,, r. Watt seconded and it was voted.
Read data from Mr. Welch relative to the McIlroy Analyzer,
an electrically operated machine in which the components of the
distribution of electricity are used to represent the components of
the distribution of water. By varying conditions on the loaded
machine, results can be obtained which will show what could be done
to strengthen Readingfs water distribution system. The Superin-
tendent recommended that an agreement be made with Tufts College to
rent the aforementioned machine for a period of two days at a cost
of approximately $500.00.
M.r. Leonard moved that Mr. Welch's recommendation be fol-
lowed, Mr. Brown seconded and the motion carried.

The Board signed the following; -
Payroll and billroll for the period December 17 through
December 23, 1961
Sewer Frontage, House Connection, Sidewalk and Water Main
Extension Commitment Sheets for 1961
It was moved, seconded and voted to continue the meeting
in Executive Session.
The proposed 1962 budget was considered item by item and
many problems discussed and several questions asked and answered.
It was moved, seconded and voted to reconvene the meeting
in open session.
It was moved, seconded and voted to send to the Finance
Committee a tentative list of proposed 1962 appropriations with
the understanding that a more detailed and specific list will be
forwarded in the near future.
The meeting adjourned at 10:45 P.M.

The undersigned, Board of Public Works of the Town of
Reading, in compliance with the provisions of General Laws,
Chapter 80, as amended by Chapter 63 of the Acts of 1933 , hereby
certify that the list herewith contains the names of persons
against whom we have made bettement assessments, toeether with
the location of the land benefited by the imorovement and the
nature and amount of such betterment.
And such list is certified to you for the purpose of
committing the same to the Tax Collector, as provided by law.
