HomeMy WebLinkAbout1961-10-02 Board of Public Works Minutes October 2, 1961 X 3 5 Regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7: 30 P.M. in Room 14, Municipal Building. Present were Chairman Florence, Secretary Leonard, Board Members Hodson and Watt, and Superintendent Welch. Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved. Read letter from Rev. Jerauld, Rector, Church of the Good Shepherd, requesting permission to have a trailer parked on church pro- perty for collection of papers and to have Chute Street confined to one- way traffic between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. on October 21, 1961. Mr. Welch suggested the request be approved. Mr. Leonard moved that the Superintendent ' s recommendation be followed, Mr. Watt seconded and it was voted. Read note from the Superintendent regarding the extremely bad condition of the monolithic cement sidewalk on Smith Avenue and re- placement thereof with a bituminous sidewalk. No betterments would be ' charged. Mr. Leonard moved that Mr. Welch' s recommendation be followed, Mr. Watt seconded and it was voted. Conference with Sherwood J. Tarlow, Jr. , President, Mystic Disposal Corporation was postponed at his request until October 16 at 8:00 P.M. A delegation of residents from Harvard Street,with Mr. James Kelley as spokesman, appeared before the Board with reference to drainage conditions in that area. A detailed discussion followed. The group was advised that the Board would take the matter under advise- ment and the spokesman, Mr. Kelley, would be notified of any action which might be taken. Read comments from Mr. Welch regarding the inclusion in the 1962 Budget of an item for sloped curb .installation. A discussion followed. Mr. Watt moved that the subject be placed on the table for ' further discussion. It was seconded by Mr. Hodson and the motion car- ried. 136 Read note from C. Burleigh Wellington, 50 Gleason Road, expressing his appreciation for the excellent work done by the Pub- lic Works Department on his property. Mr. Welch presented to the Board Members a report on ,job � evaluation. The members were in general agreement on the first por- tion. The only questionable area was the form of employment appli- cation which Mr. Watt and the Superintendent will discuss, edit and prepare for presentation at the next meeting. Public Hearing was held at 8:30 P.M. for the purpose of tak- ing an easement for drainage and sewerage purposes through private property westerly of Parkview Road. Ten persons attended the Hearing and voted in favor. No action was taken pending the signing of the Release from Damages by all interested parties. Public Hearing was also held regarding extension of the main trunk sanitary sewer in the following locations: - Westerly of PARKVIEW ROAD from Weston Road in a Souther yly Ur ct-f—on IDE STREET from Wilson Street in an Easterly direction WOODUND STREET from John Carver Road in an Easterly direction LINDEN STREET from present end to #62 The Superintendent answered technical questions and explained the payments. A total of twenty persons attended the meeting with the voting as follows: In favor Opposed Non-Committal 13 1 1 Mr. Watt moved that the proposed sewer program be accepted, Mr. Leonard seconded and the motion carried.
