February 27, 1961
Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30
P.M. in the auditorium of the Community Center, 52 Sanborn Street.
Present were Chairman Florence, Board Members Leonard,
Ames and Hodson and Superintendent Welch.
Hearing was held regarding the proposed extension of
the Main Trunk Sanitary Sewer in the following locations: -
GLENMERE CIRCLE, from Winslow Road to Winslow Road
PALMER HILL AVENUE, from West Street to Longview Road
MAIN STREET, Forest Glen Road to Willard Road
FOREST GLEN ROAD Main Street to near Pearl Street
UTJ ROAD, from Irving Street to Forest Glen Road
IRVING STREET, from Main Street to Pearl Street
WILLARD ROAD, from Main Street to Pearl Street
HARTSHORN STREET, from Lowell Street to Bancroft Avenue
SALEM STREET, from Pearl Street to Wilson Street
HIGHLAND STREET, from Lowell Street to Bancroft Avenue
ITNGFELLOW ROAD, from Hartshorn Street Extension to dead end
HARTSHORN STREET EXTENSION, and of Hartshorn Street to Easement
Each person in attendance was given a printed form show-
ing his/her frontage assessment, a form on which to vote, illus-
tration of a typical sewer connection and a form to apply for a
house connection.
An extended discussion took place. Many questions were
asked of and answered by the Superintendent.
A total of 133 persons attended the meeting, with the
voting as follows: -

The Board and Superintendent Welch moved to the Municipal
Building where the meeting was continued.
Records of the previous meeting read and approved as
amended.

Read report from Superintendent summarizing many
changes made in Department during the past few months and stat- ,
ing that the Board had actually accomplished more than it
realized.
Mr. Ames moved that #4 on the Agenda be rewritten
and both newspapers which normally cover the activities of this
Board be given an opportunity to insert the data in their pub-
lication if they so wish.
It was seconded by Mr. Leonard who suggested that the
item be headed "Progress Report of the Board of Public Works of
the Town of Reading". The motion was carried.
It was moved, seconded and voted that the Superintendent
be commended for the operational improvements made in the Depart-
ment.
Read note from the Superintendent with reference to
sick leave for Harry Evans. Mr. Welch requested that action be
postponed for a week or two until he can check on various forms
of pensions to which Mr. Evans might be entitled; also, a state-
ment on his health from the Doctor. A discussion followed.
Mr. Ames moved that the sickness benefits be extended
for two weeks, Mr. Leonard seconded and it was voted.
Mr. Hodson requested that on March 5 (tour of the war-
rant) Mr. Welch have a small area at the dump cleared to show j
sanitary fill operation; also that some employee be at the Pearl
Street relocation to explain the situation. The tour will start
at 2:00 P.M.

Read letter from Robert A. Muir, 529 Pearl Street regard-
ing a drainage condition in front of his house. Mr. Ames moved
that the matter be referred to the Superintendent for appropriate
action and a report made to the Board at a later date. It was
seconded and voted.
Mr. Leonard brought up the drainage condition at Meadow
Brook Golf Club. The Superintendent will investigate and report
to the Board at a later date.
Mr. Leonard questioned whether Parkview Road could be
included in the 1962 Sewer Program. A discussion followed. Mr.
Leonard moved that the Superintendent investigate the practical
side in accordance with the plans and ascertain whether Parkview
Road could be tied in with the project of 1962. Mr. Hodson
' seconded and it was voted.
The Board took up the subject of the Sewer Program for
1961. Mr. Leonard moved the acceptance of the 1961 program for
sewer mains in accordance with the Hearing held February 27, 1961
at the Community Center. Mr. Ames seconded and it was voted.
Signed the pay-roll and bill-roll for the period Febru-
ary 19 through February 25, 1961.
