December 28, 1960
LRegular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7:30 P.M. in Room 14, Municipal Building.
Present were Chairman Florence, Messrs. Ames and Hodson
and Superintendent Welch.
Records of the previous meeting were read and approved
as amended.
Mr. E. L. Hanlon of the DeMatteo Construction Company
conferred with the Board relative to the Town dumping rubbish on
land owned by DeMatteo in Saugus, Massachusetts .
After a general discussion it was agreed that Mr. Hanlon
will contact Superintendent Welch and obtain information on which
he can base a series of estimated proposals.
' It was moved by Mr. Hodson and seconded by Mr. Ames
that the operation of the dump be continued in the same manner
until the Town Meeting has an opportunity to act on the 1961 Budget
request for funds to start sanitary fill operations.

Received letter from George Bryne Co. , Sewer Contractors,
requesting (1) that the Board approve a temporary suspension of
operations under the sewer contract, and (2) that consideration
j be given to releasing a substantial part of the retainage on the
�� sewer contract, and (3) that while they (the contractor) will as-

sums responsibility for maintenance of uncompleted trenches,
they will do so only when informed by the Town that work is nec-
essary.
It was moved by Mr. Hodson and seconded by Mr. Ames
that the Department (1) agree to a temporary suspension of opera-
tions, and (2) refuse any responsibility for uncompleted trenches
even though offering close cooperation, and (3) take under advise-
ment the request for a reduction in the retainageandfurther
that this vote be submitted to the Town Counsel for his advice.
The motion carried.
Considered proposed 1961 Budget in detail. It was
moved by Mr. Ames and seconded by Mr. Hodson that the following
amounts be submitted as proposed 1961 budgets for the various
subdivisions of the Department:

The motion carried.
Considered proposed reclassification schedule for De-
partment. Classes were discussed in detail and changes proposed
in three classifications.
It was moved by Mr. Hodson and seconded by Mr. Ames
that the schedule as amended be submitted to the Personnel Board
for their consideration.
The motion carried.
Considered complete list of Department employees and pro-
posed 1961 salaries as submitted by Superintendent Welch on Decem-
ber 5, 1960- Each employee was considered individually and many

questions were asked of and answered by Superintendent Welch.
It was moved by Mr. Ames and seconded by Mr. Hodson
that the list of proposed 1961 salaries be submitted to the
Personnel Board for approval.
