' Regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened
at 7:30 P. M. in Room 14, Municipal Building.
Present were Chairman Florence, Secretary Harrison,
Board Members Leonard, Ames and Hodson and Superintendent Welch.
Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved as
corrected.
Mr. Ames brought before the Board the subject of
acceptance of new streets after the final release of a perform-
ance bond. A general discussion followed as to whether or not
sidewalks should be a mandatory item. Mr. Ames moved that when
the Board of Survey makes a final release of a performance bond
for any street in any development, the Board of Public Works
shall, as soon as is practicable thereafter, hold a public hear-
Ing on the acceptance of said street as a public way.
Mr. Hodson seconded and it was voted. Mr. Ames was re-
quested by the Chairman to advise the Board of Selectmen what had
transpired at the Public Works meeting regarding street accep-
tances. Mr. Ames so informed the Selectmen.
Read form letter from Commonwealth of Massachusetts, De-
partment of Public Works, listing the bidders on the 1960 Chapter
90 Construction on West Street. It was moved, seconded and voted
to award the contract to the lowest bidder, V. D'Angelo & Sons,
.Inc. of Everett in the amount of $27,302.35•
Chairman read letter from Ivy S. Ames and Willard C.
Ames, 36 Parkman Road, requesting a Bituminous Concrete sidewalk
In front of their property to conform to the existing sidewalk at
Margaret Road. Mr. Leonard moved that the petition be complied

with, Mr. Hodson seconded and it was voted.
Mr. Florence read a petition from four abutters of
Cherry Lane Drive requesting that the street be accepted as a
public way. Mr. Ames made a motion, it was seconded and voted
that the petition be processed in the usual manner.
The Board temporarily adjourned at 7:55 P. M. to meet
as the Board of Survey.
The Board reconvened at 9:00 P.M.
The Board signed the pay-roll and bill-roll for the
period August 21, 1960 through August 27, 1960.
Signed Order of Taking for Drainage and Sewerage Ease-
ment Southeasterly of Bolton Street through lands of John
Philopoulos and being located on Lot 2 Bolton Street, said ease-
ment being 15 feet in width.
Signed Order of Taking for Drainage and Sewerage Ease-
ment Northeasterly of Timberneck Drive through lands of Joseph W.
Corrado et ux, Edward Fasclano at ux and John Sarmanian et ux,
and being located on Lots 106,107 and 108 Timberneck Drive, said
easement being 20 feet in width.
The Chairman read petition from residents of Bunker
Avenue (Private Way) requesting that a water main be installed in
said street. The Superintendent showed and explained a sketch of
the land. The three affected houses are served by old services
running off Pearl Street. No water main exists in the street. A
discussion was held regarding installation of main and costs to
the abutters. Mr. Leonard moved that Mr. Welch survey the matter
and obtain additional information regarding relocating the mains '
on private property. Mr. Harrison seconded and it was voted.

Mr. Florence read bid from Blais-Porter on 1/2-Ton
' Chevrolet Pick-up truck. As this was the only bid received, Mr.
Welch recommended that it be accepted. Mr. Ames questioned the
advisability of accepting the bid and suggested advertising again.
Mr. Welch assured the Board that he had advertised for bids on
two different occasions and sent out specifications to local
dealers. Mr. Ames suggested the use of a sedan or Jeep. It
was deemed inadvisable to use these types of cars.
Mr. Hodson made the motion that the Blais-Porter bid
of $1,800.00 be accepted, Mr. Harrison seconded and it was voted.
Hearing was held regarding the location of a jointly
owned New England Telephone & Telegraph Company-Reading Municipal
Light Department pole on the Easterly side of Curtis Street approx-
imately 626.00 feet Southerly from George Street. It was moved,
seconded and voted to grant the request.
Meeting adjourned at 9:35 P.M.

Chapter 80, as amended by Chapter 63 of the Acts of 1933,
hereby certify that the list herewith Contains the names of
persons against whom we have made betterment assessments, to-
gether with the location of the land benefited by the improve-
ment ai)d the nature and amount of such betterment assessment.
And such list is certified to you for the purpose of
committing the some to the Tax Collector, a- provided by law.
