Regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened
at 7:30 Y.M. in Hoom 14, Municipal Building.
Present were Secretary Harrison, Board Members
Leonard and Hodson and Superintendent Welch.
Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved.
In the absence of Mr. r'lorence, Mr. Harrison acted
as Chairman.
Note from Superintendent Welch was read, requesting
permission to take three weeks' vacation; namely,
1 week - June 25 to July 5, 1960
2 weeks- August 6 to August 21, 1960
Mr. Leonard moved that Mr. Welch' s request be granted. It was
seconded and voted.
The Board signed Lay-out Plans for the Mystic Valley
Cas Company for the installation of a gas main in South Street
from Main Street Westerly, a distance of 1,460 feet more or
less; also, for the extension of the gas main in Oakland Road
and Birch Meadow Drive, a distance of 690 feet more or less.
Read list of bids received for a tractor with bull-
dozer blade. The list follows:

The Board accepted Mr. Welch' s recommendation, and Mr. Leonard
made the motion that we purchase an Allis-Chalmers Tractor - i
Short 'Track - at the bid price of $12,127.50 from Dickson Equip-
ment Company. Mr. Hodson seconded and it was voted.
The Board considered the request of the New England
Telephone & Telegraph Company and Reading Municipal Light De-
partment to relocate two and remove three jointly-owned poles
on Pearl Street. It was moved, seconded and voted to grant
permission.
Signed Orders of Taking on the proposed drain ease-
ments through land owned by Massachusetts Builders, known asp!
Lincolnwood Development, as follows:
Easement Westerly of Hemlock (Private) Road. The
side lines of said easement are 10.0 feet parallel
to the division property line between lots 137 and
138 Hemlock Road.

Easement Easterly of Balsam (Private) Road. The
side lines of said easement are 10.0 feet parallel
to the division property line between lots 102 and
103 Balsam Road.
Easement Southwesterly of Ash Hill (Private) Road.
The side lines of said easement are 20.0 feet par-
allel in width and said easement is designated as
lot 122 Ash Hill Road.
Read letter from Swimming Pool Committee in regard
to land under jurisdiction of the Board of Public Works which i
might be available for a pool. The necessary requirements
would be: -
A minimum of 50,000 Square Feet - entrance and
exit.
Water, sewer and electrical facilities within
reasonable distance.

' The motion was made that the said matter be referred to the
Superintendent for study and report.
The Chairman read letter received from the Board of
Selectmen regarding specifications for bids for gasoline to be
purchased for all Town Departments. A general discussion fol-
lowed and suggestions made.
The Board journeyed to Wilmington and conferred with
the Selectmen of Wilmington relative to a lot of land lying be-
tween Route 93 and the Town Line of Reading and Wilmington.
The land abuts the Reading well field and this Board would like
to obtain control of it.
It was not possible for the Wilmington Selectmen to
agree to any possible action since the State taking for Route
93 has been appealed. They will notify the Board when the
case is settled.
The meeting adjourned at 9:00 P.M.

The undersigned, Board of Public Works of the Town of
Heading, in compliance with the provisions of General Laws,
Chapter 80, as amended by Chapter 63 of the Acts of 1933,
hereby certify that the list herewith contains the name of
persons against whom we have made betterment assessments , to-
gether with the location of the land benefited by the improve-
ment and the nature and amount of such betterment assessment.
And such list is certified to you for the purpose of
committing the same to the Tax Collector, as provided by law.
