HomeMy WebLinkAbout1960-05-09 Board of Public Works Minutes Jy May 9, 1960 ' Regular meeting of the Board. of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M . in Room 14, Municipal Building. Present were Chairman Florence, Secretary Harrison, Board Members Ames and Hodson and Superintendent Welch. Minutes of previous meeting read and approved . Mr. Florence brought before the Board a bill for installation of a new 2-inch water service to the business block at the corner of Haven and Main Street, owned by Mr. Khorkborian. Mr. Welch was requested by Mr. Killam, Town Counsel, to check the. bill for partial abatement . Due to the fact that the bill was correct, Mr. Harrison moved that Mr. Kborkhorian' s request be denied . It was seconded and so voted. The Chairman read a letter which Frank J. Tanner received from Rodolphe G. Bessette regarding the proposal Chapter 91 Project, the. Aberjona River. The motion was made, seconded and voted to await further developments. Read petition from residents of Beverly Road re- questing acceptance of said road as a Town Way under the Bet- terment Act. Mr. Harrison made the motion that it be placed on file for processing in the usual manner . It was seconded and voted. Mr. Florence read a letter which had been received from Sanborn Bros. Realty Trust regarding the incinerator ' built for them by the Board of Public Works. After consider- 66 able discussion Mr. Ames made the motion that a letter be sent to Sanborn Bros, to the effect that the present Board feels that the obligation was fulfilled when the incinerator was built. Mr. Harrison seconded and it was voted. A Hearing was held at 8 :00 P.M. on the proposed Drain Easement - Wakefield Street to Baker Road through lands of William R. Burns et ux and others. The following II persons were present: - William Burns - 192 Wakefield St, - In favor George H. Holden - 12 Baker Road - Jeanette F. Donald - 263 Pearl St. - Barbara Herrick - 255 Pearl St. James W. Herrick - 255 Pearl St. - A Hearing was held at 8:30 P.M . on the proposed Drain Easement - Southerly of Van Norden Road through lands of Frank R . Gray, Jr. et ux and Frederick R. Burrill et ux. The following attended: i Frank R. Gray, Jr. - 65 Van Norden Rd. - In favor The Takings were approved. The motion was made to withhold signing Orders of Taking until Releases have been obtained from all persons involved. It was seconded and so voted. A detailed discussion was held regarding future sidewalk construction. It was moved, seconded and voted to hold Hearings for the installation of permanent sidewalks on Hartshorn Street (South Side) - Lowell Street to Bancroft Avenue High Street (West Side) - from Middlesex Avenue Northerly to Vine Street ' 61 ' It was also moved , seconded and voted to construct permanent sidewalks on the section of the Common between Main, Salem, Herndon and Woburn Streets. The motion was made by Mr. Harrison to start the Summer schedule on June 13 . Meetings of the Board of Public Works will be held on alternate Mondays starting June 13, 1960. It was seconded and so voted . The Chairman read a letter from Mrs. Phyllis Ahlin of the Junior Unity Club requesting permission to occupy a portion of Summer Avenue from Woburn Street to Temple Street from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 14, for the pur- pose of holding a Country Fair. It was moved, seconded and voted that the permit be granted . Mr. Florence read a letter from Chief James Perry of the Fire Department regarding the Pearl Street relocation. Mr. Ames moved that the Chairman call the Police Chief and ascertain if he wishes to comply with Mr. Welch' s request for his opinion. It was seconded and so voted. A discussion followed regarding the use of tools and time on personal projects during working hours. It was moved, seconded and voted to have a broader discussion of this subject at the next meeting.
