Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M .
Chairman Zanni, Secretary Harrison, Board Members Donahue,
Florence and Leonard and Superintendent Weich were present.
The meeting started in the Community Center Building.
Read letters from Mr. Villella and Mr. DiMassino relative
to sewer easement through their lands from Main Street to
Lawrence Road and letters from Mr. Welcker and Mr. Carlson rela-
tive to sewer easement through their lands from Winslow Road to
Monroe Avenue. All four letters requested abatements for
frontage assessments and for house connections and for other
items.
Read note from Superintendent relative to same matter and
the requests in the letters.
The matter was discussed in detail.
A hearing was held at 8:00 P.M . on the proposed sewer ex-
tensions for 1960 in the following locations:
Main Street
Lawrence Road
Hampshire Road
Winslow Road
Weston Road
Tower Road
Forest Street
Easement east of Main Street

Each person in attendance was given a printed form showing
his frontage assessment, a form to give an opinion on, and a form to

apply for a house connection.
An extended discussion took place. Many questions were
asked and answered.
A total of 83 persons attended the hearing of which 6$
favored the extensions, one opposed, four were non-committal
and 13 did not register.
At the conclusion of the hearing the meeting of the Board
continued at the Board of Public Works Office.
A further discussion took place on letters from Villella,
DiMassino, Weicker and Carlson.
It was moved, seconded and voted to abate the frontage
assessment only on all four properties and to choose other
sewer extension locations in the event these owners do not
wish to sign the Releases.
Received letter from Mr. William Burns, 192 Wakefield
Street about water impounding in the street in front of his
property.
Read note from Superintendent relative to same matter.
It was moved, seconded and voted to make a survey of the
conditions and further to ask Mr. Burns if he will grant a
drain easement to the Town.
Received two letters from Personnel Board . One stated
that all requested salary increases for individual employees
have been approved and the other listed changes made in the
schedule as requested by the Board and the reasons for the
changes.

It was moved, seconded and voted to request the Personnel
Board to raise the minimum rate of $ 1.52 per hour for super-
visory employees, etc. to 42.10 as proposed .
Read note from Superintendent giving a resume, of pro-
blems rel.abive to Putnam Road including (1) a conversation with
one of the developers, Mr. Orchanian, and ( 2) the results of a
survey made of the work to date, and (3) suggesting that the
Board contact Mr. Cullivan, the agreed liaison man for the
owners.
It was moved, seconded and voted to ( 1) ask the Town
Counsel to prepare a letter to the Bonding Company and ( 2)
invite Mr. Cullivan to confer with the Board .
ERead note from Superintendent suggesting that thought be
given to requests received by Department to pump out flooded
cellars and low lands and further suggesting that conferences
be held with the Selectmen and Finance Committee.
The matter was taken under advisement.
Read note from Superintendent relative to conversation with
Mr. Lancaster, the Town Manager of Wilmington, concerning lands
in Wilmington lying between the Reading-Wihsington Town Line and
Route 93 which are owned by the Town of Wilmington.
It was moved, seconded and voted to write to the Board of
Selectmen of Wilmington about the matter as suggested by Mir.
Lancaster.

Mr. Leonard introduced a letter requesting that the
sewer extension in Longfellow Road be moved up in the Sewer
Program to the year 1960.
The matter was taken under advisement.
The meeting adjourned at 10:15 P.M .
