L Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M.
Chairman Zanni, Secretary Harrison, Board Members Donahue,
Florence and Leonard and Superintendent Welch were present.
Records of the previous meeting were read and approved .
Read note from Superintendent stating that two meetings
have been arranged as follows:
1.Joint Meeting of Board of Public Works, Board of Select-
men, Town Counsel and Sub-Committee of Finance Committee
at 7:45 P.M. on Tuesday, January 19, 1960 at the Munici-
pal Building, to discuss problems of the Mineral Street
Bridge.
2.Joint Meeting of Board of Public Works and Sub-Committee
of Finance Committee at 7:30 P.M. on Thursday, January
21, 1960 at the Municipal Building to discuss 1960 Budget.
Considered note from Superintendent suggesting an abate-
ment of $75.00 on the Sewer House Connection of Mrs. McRonald
of 46 Willow Street. Suggestion is based on fact that she is
a widow and receives maximum widow' s allowance on her property
assessment from the Assessors.
It was moved, seconded and voted to grant an abatement of
$7$.00 to Mrs. McRonald.
Received letter from Dana Alward, 450 Summer Avenue, re-
questing an abatement on his Street Betterment Assessment for
the construction of-Knollwood Road.
Request is based on the claim that he did considerable
work himself on that part of his property abutting Knollwood
Road.

Read note from Superintendent relative to same matter.
It was moved, seconded and voted to request Mr. Alward to
present, in writing, a statement of the actual expense he in-
curred and to withhold action pending receipt of requested in-
formation.
It was moved, seconded and voted to abate the sum of $91.77
on the bill sent to Carlos Borge, 25 Ridge Road, for damage to
hydrant on High Street at Tarpin' s Garage.
Hearing at 8:00 P.M. on proposed Sewer Easement in the rear
of new houses on the Southerly side of Willow Street just west
of the Boston & Maine Railroad. Land is owned by Charles Leard,
the builder of the houses.
A Waiver of Claim for Damages signed by Mr. Leard was pre-
sented.
Signed Order of Taking for the above-described Sewer Ease-
ment.
Received letter from Mr. Ernest Spence, Principal of the
Birch Meadow School requesting permission to occupy and use the
larger skating area at Birch Meadow for the purpose of holding
a family PTA skating party on February 8, 1960 from 6:30 to
8:00 P.M. or on February 10, 11 or 12, in the event of inclement
weather.
It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the request and
to ask the Police Department to assist in prohibiting hockey
playing during the above-mentioned hours.

Received petition from eighteen (18) abuttors on Oak Street
requesting an extension of the common sewer in Oak Street from
Pine Ridge Road to West Street.
Petition was placed on file and will be introduced into the
Sewer Construction Program.
The meeting adjourned at 9:00 P.M .
