October 26, 1959
' The meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P .M .
Secretary Harrison, Board Members Florence and Leonard and
Superintendent Welch were present.
Records of previous two meetings were read and approved.
Mr. Florence acted as Chairman.
It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the petition of
the Municipal Light Department for a manhole and underground
conduit in Linden Street opposite the N.E.T.& T. Co. building.
Signed the petition forms for above described manhole and
conduit.
Discussed the permanency notice to be posted at the Town
Garage.
' It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the notice and
the attached list of names, a copy of which is to be posted at
the Garage.
Mr. Harrison and Mr. Florence affixed their signatures to
the notice.
Considered bids received for two medium sized trucks.
It was moved , seconded and voted to accept the bid of Mack
Trucks, Inc, and to purchase from them two trucks at the bid
price of $11,905.00.
Considered letter from Board to Employees covering Board
action on the several items presented by employees to Board .
It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the letter as
' drafted.
Letter was signed by Mr. Florence, Mr. Leonard and Mr.
Harrison.

Considered letter from Board to Personnel Board accompanied
by proposed new wage schedule.
It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the letter as
drafted.
The letter was signed by Mr. Florence as Chairman, pro tem,
to be forwarded to the Personnel Board ,
Considered the present sick leave and paid holiday policies
and possible changes thereto.
The matter was taken under advisement.
Considered results of hearing held on October 19, 19$9 for
proposed sewer extension in Ash Street from near Brook Street to
near Cross Street.
It was moved, seconded and voted to install the proposed
extension this year 1£ weather permits.
Considered proposal for main pipe water extension in Oakland
Road, Birch Meadow Drive and Arthur Lord Drive to service the
High School, the Junior High School and the Arthur Lord Primary
School. Water main would eliminate dead end mains pt the three

schools and provide a circulating main � each. .Cost is
approximately $13,000 more than present proposal. --
It was moved , seconded and voted to submit the proposal to
the Junior High School Committee.
Considered proposed driveway location plan for proposed new
gasoline station on John Street at the future extension of Lake-
view Avenue . A plan was submitted by Esso Standard Oil Company.
It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the proposed
driveway location plan.
Received a letter from Conant Associates, requesting Informa-
tion relative to a possible sewer extension from Brook Street to

Cross Street for the purpose of connecting to the sewer a proposed
Rest Home for elderly people at No. 239 Main Street.
It was moved, seconded and voted to instruct the Superintendent
to secure more information about the project.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 P.M .
