' August 24, 1959.
The meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7 :30 P.M.
Chairman Zanni, Secretary Harrison, Mssrs. Donahue, Florence and
Leonard and Superintendent Welch were present.
Records of the previous meeting were read and approved.
A note from Superintendent was read stating that Town Counsel
had advised rejecting all bids and sub bids for Garage Extension
and suggesting that the project be rebid by advertising on
Sept. 3 and 4 and accepting sub bids on Sept. 21 and general bids on
Sept. 25, 1959.
It was moved, seconded and voted to rebid Garage Extension
project as above described.
Read note from Superintendent stating that contracts and
specifications for submersible pimcp are completed and suggesting
that advertisements be placed on Sept. 3 and 4 and that bids be
taken on Sept. 24. 1959.
It was moved, seconded andvoted to bid the Submersible
Pump Project as noted above.
Received letter from four abuttors on Morgan Park requesting
that better drainage facilities be installed in this area.
Request was placed on file.
Mr. Donahue brought up the matter of approving of extras
on contracts. The matter was discussed in some detail.
No specific action was taken but it was generally agreed
' that extras which are comparatively large shall be submitted to the
Board for decision before being approved .

Held hearing at 8:00 P.M. on proposed construction
of bituminous concrete sidewalks in the following locations:
1. Lowell St., East Side, Hanscom Ave , to Puritan Rd.
2. Salem St. , North Side, Pearl St. to Winter St.

It was moved, seconded and voted to construct sidewalks
on Lowell St. and Salem St. as above described .
Temporarily adjourned at 8:30 P.M . to meet as Board of
Survey.

The meeting of the Board of Public Works was reconvened
at 9:00 P.M.

properties of Francis Folzarano and Alfred 'Bernardi which lie
at the northerly dead end of Reading Terrace.
The following persons were present

The matter was laid on the table awaiting decision of
Mr. Folzarano.
Conferred with four representatives of the Reading Post
of Veterans of Roreign Wars relative to the Town giving to the
V. F. W. a parcel of land on John Street containing approximately
' 1.9 acres. This land is now a part of the Town Dump and is
under the control of the Board of Public Works. It lies dust
east of the land occupied by the Tree and Moth Department.
It was moved, seconded and voted to take the matter under
advisement.
Mr. Donahue submitted a letter requesting that plans be
prepared for widening and relocating Pearl St. from Charles St.
to Main St. and Franklin St, from Haverhill St. to Main St. ,
with particular attention to the intersection of Pearl St. and
Main St. near Greenleafs Service Station.
It was moved, seconded and voted to refer the matter to
the Superintendent for preparation of plans.
' Discussed the general problem of developers and developments.

Read letter from Town Counsel in which he gives individual
opinions. on the 16 items contained in the report of the Sub-
Committee on Personnel.
It was moved, seconded and voted to prepare copies of the
letter for each Board Member and to discuss letter in detail
at a later meeting.
Signed Order of Taking for a drain and sewer easement from
Grove St. to Larch Lane through lands of Moody, Wold, Santoro
and Ruscitti all of whom have signed a : Release from Damages
in favor of the Town.
Meeting was adjourned at 11:00 P.M.
