The meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M.
Present were Chairman Zanni, Secretary Harrison and Messrs . Donahue,
Florence, Leonard and Superintendent Welch.
Records of previous meeting were read and approved.
Read report from Superintendent relative to Campanella & Cardi
trucking fill over Town owned lands from so-called Ordway Pit to Route 93.
An extended discussion took place.
It was moved, seconded and voted to permit Campanella & Cardi to
haul fill across the so-called Taylor Pit and the well field lands sub-
ject to the following provisions:
1. They shall post a $1,000. cash bond to be used by this Depart-
ment, if necessary, to make repairs to any damaged water facility.
2. They shall post a $5,000. surety bond for the same purpose as
in No. 1 above.
3. The location and construction of the temporary haul road is to
be approved by this Department.
4, Lay Bituminous Concrete where the road crosses Strout Avenue
and where it crosses the road between P. S . No.2 and P. S. Deo. 3.
5. Start repaving Grove Street from Route 93 to the Golf Club
immediately.
Read report from Superintendent relative to lands in Wilmington
lying between Route 93 and the well field. Superintendent reported that
all lands in which the Board might be interested are owned by the Town
of Wilmington. Subject matter placed on file pending obtaining more
detail.
Received letter from Mr. Donahue suggesting that a study be made
of the intersection of Main Street and Pearl Street. Subject matter
referred to Superintendent for preparation of sketches of possible
changes.
Received letter from Mr. Hynes , 84 John Street, relative to water
impounding in street abutting his property.
Read report from Superintendent relative to same matter.
It was moved, seconded and voted to place the matter on file with
the understanding that every possible consideration will be given the
problem.
Read letter from Mr. Donahue relative to construction inspectors on
Town projects.
Read report of Superintendent relative to personnel assigned to
Town Construction projects.
It was moved, seconded and voted to accept this report as progressive.
Read report from Superintendent that plans for Garage Extension have
been received from Architect and suggesting dates for advertising and
taking bids.
It was moved, seconded and voted to advertise and take bids as ,
follows:
1. Advertise in Reading Chronicle on July 23 , 1959 and July 30,
1959 and in Boston Globe on July 24, 1959•
2. Take Sub-bids on August 17, 1959 at 11:00 A.M.
3. Take General Bids on August 21, 1959 at 4:00 P.M.
Read letter from Niles Realty requesting that houses they are build-
ing on Brook Street east of Summer Avenue be connected to the Town of
Wakefield water main as Reading does not have a water main in this portion
of Brook Street.
Read report from Superintendent relative to same matter.
It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the request providing
the Town of Wakefield wishes to make the connections.
Considered resume of bids for Bituminous Concrete for sidewalks.

It was moved, seconded and voted to award the contract to the low
bidder, E. Whitney Drake,
Mr. Hartt, 321 Lowell Street and Mr. Ricker, 313 Lowell Street
conferred with Board . They stated they wished to oppose the construction
of sidewalks on the easterly side of Lowell Street.
Mr. Donahue moved that a hearing be held on the renaming of a portion
of South Street. Motion was not seconded .
The meeting was adjourned at 10:20 P.ti.
