HomeMy WebLinkAbout1959-06-08 Board of Public Works Minutes 81 June 8, 1959 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened Monday evening, June 8, 1959 at 7 :30 P .M. Chairman 'Lanni, Secretary Harrison, Messrs. Donahue, Florence, Leonard and Superintendent Welch were present. Read note from Superintendent stating that arrangements have been made for sidewalk betterment hearings to be held at the Community Center on Monday, June 15, 1959 . Read report from Superintendent relative to progress on contracts for wells, pumping stations and water mains. A detailed discussion was held covering several phases of the projects in general. Received letter from Robert Stone Company requesting permission for the owners at #9 Putnam Road, Mr. & Mrs. Richard Wittinghill, to connect a cellar drain to the storm drain in Putnam Road . It was moved , seconded and voted that the requested permission be granted subject to the usual provisions. Read report from Superintendent stating that he had a conference with the developers of Reading Terrace and that an agreement had been reached relative to extending the drainage in Reading Terrace . The agreement is as follows : 1 . The Town will do the Engineering, furnish the pipe and furnish the castings. 2. The developer will Install the pipe complete and furnish materials and build the structures. It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the above Ldescribed agreement. 82 Considered bids for 36,000 Gross Vehicle Weight truck. Bids were taken on Thursday, June 4, 1959 at 4:00 P.M. r Bids are : White Motors Model 4200 $9,000.00 International Model R210 9,051 .31 Mack Motors Model B42XC 9,168.00 Brockway Model 157L 9,815.00 It was moved, seconded and voted to purchase a Model 4200 Truck from White 140tors at the net bid price of 919,000.00. Received letter from Harrows Poultry Products, 126 Main Street, requesting payment for damages to candy, groceries, etc . , caused by a broken water pipe while employees of the Department were rodding the service to the building. It was moved, seconded and voted to refer the claim to the Law Committee . Received letter from the Atlantic Food Mart requesting permission for their softball team to play ball on Birch Meadow on June 14, 1959 and to sell hot dogs and tonic. Game is to be a benefit for the Jimmy Fund. It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the request. It was moved, seconded and voted to go into executive session to consider personnel matters.
