' The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened
on Monday evening, May 25, 1959 at 7 :30 P.M.
Chairman Zanni, Secretary Harrison, Messrs. Donahue,
Florence, Leonard and Superintendent Welch were present.
The Records of the previous meeting were read and
approved as amended .
Received letter from Krs. J.J. Kiely requesting permission
for the Christian Family Movement to hold a picnic at Birch
Meadow on Sunday, June 2e, 1959 from 1:00 P.Y. to 5:00 P.nl,
It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the above
request.
received letter from the Congregational Church requesting
permission to hold a band concert on Memorial Park, Saturday
September 19, 1959.
It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the above
request for Memorial Park providing the Selectmen approve a
band concert.
Discussed proposed meeting with 2.unicipal Employees Assoc ,
Due to conflicting engagements; no date was set ,
Considered listing of bids for a four door sedan. It
was moved, seconded and voted to purchase a Plymouth Belvidere
four door sedan from the low bidder, Hillcrest Eotors, at the
bid price of ?2:02! .00.

Dir. Lawrence Drew, Chairman, Board of Seleetme n^in
relation to two matters.
1, The Selectmen l:iave an Article in the Warrant for the
Special Town Meeting of June 22, 1959 requesting

permission to remove the illuminated sign on the :leading ,
Common.
2. Requested flagpole on the Common be painted and
halyards installed before Nag 30, 1959 .
Received letter from John Ryan, Superintendent for
Campanella & Cardi on the Lite . 93 project requesting permission
to haul fill from the Golf Club lands and for the Ordway lands
through Town owned property i.e . , the Taylor pit, the Town pit
and the Town well field . An extended discussion took place
covering many aspects of the proposal.
It was moved, seconded and voted to postpone action and
to request that Campanella & Cardi write a letter similar to the
one received and noted above but signed by a mem'oer of the firm '
of Campanella w Cardi .
It was moved, seconded and voted to send a copy of the
Campanella I Cardi letter to the 3oard of Appea14
Hearing at 8 :30 P.S4. on proposed pole locations as follows :
Hopkins St . - east side - near Fourth St. - Pole 1111/26
moved 23 feet northerly - New Pole 44./27 set 136 feet
south of pole 4.4./26
No one present - Both Joint Ownership.
It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the pole
locations and to sign the petition.
Received letter from Little League commending Department
on condition of Little League Field . '
Considered Sewer Construction bids received on May 14,1959 .
It was moved, seconded and voted to award the contract for
Sewer Construction to the low bidder, Dan C. Tari no, at the base

bid of y}64,012,00.
Considered Storm Drain Construction bids received on
May 14., 1959 .
It was moved, seconded and voted to award the contract
for Storm Drain Construction to the low bidder, Bennedetto
Eros., at the base bid of 112,219 .00.
Discussed Sewpr Construction Funds, Due to the low bid
received it is felt that with good luck the Varino Contract
can be extended . A reconsideration will be given the matter at
a later date.
Messrs . Orchanlan and Yardumian, developers of Reading
Acres, conferred with Board relative to drainage conditions on
Reading Terr. and on lots abutting the westerly side of Reading
Tarr,
The problem was discussed in detail.
It was agreed that the developers will confer with
Superintendent Welch and arrive at some agreeable solution to
the problem.
Considered list of streets and estimates for 1959 Sidewalk
Program.
It was moved, seconded and voted to construct sidewalks
on the following streets in 1959 .
1. Some individual repair work at specific locations .
2. Finish 1958 work on Temple Street.
' 3 , Four house lots on Linden Street .

5. Lowell St, - -ast Side - Puritan N.d , to beverly Rd ,

Approximately 8112,000 is available for the work . r
Estimated cost of above work is lP10,900.
iteceived letter from Mrs . Warren Pehrson, 81 Charles St. ,
requesting removal of stumps near her property.
Superintendent reported that arrangements have already
been made to remove these and other stumps through joint work
of this Department and the Tree Warden. Work will probably be
done in a week or two .
