May 4, 1959
' The regular meeting of the Hoard of Public Works
opened on Monday evening, May 4, 1959 at 7: 30 P.M.
Chairman Zanni, Secretary Harrison, Messrs. Donahue,
Florence , Leonard and Superintendent Welch were present.
The records of the previous two meetings were
read and approved.
Signed Orders of Taking (3) for proposed drain
easement southerly from Cross St. through lands of Carl H. &
Elvira M. Ceder and Lila G. Merrill. This easement is a
widening of an already existing easement and is for the
purpose of replacing the present pipe with twin pipes.
Read note from Superintendent stating that Harry
Evans , an employee of the Dept. , has affirmed that he will dis-
continue blasting for the Dept. as soon as Dept. gets a license
for another employee . Superintendent stated that he has
notified Mr. Evans that when he specifically refuses to blast
his salary will be reduced from $90.00 per week to $86.00 per
week.
It was moved, seconded and voted to submit the
subject matter to the Personnel Study Sub Committee.
Mr. Harrison submitted his resignation as a member
of the Personnel Study Sub Committee because of the pressure
of work on the Junior High School Committee.
Mr. Florence was then appointed to the Personnel
Study Sub Committee.

Considered note from Superintendent stating that
developers of Marla Lane and Cherry Lane Drive have left raw ,
earth banks in developments and suggesting they be recalled
to correct conditions.
It was moved, seconded and voted to recall the
developers as above noted to correct conditions.
Read note from Superintendent about ball playing
in center field at Washington St. Park. Superintendent
stated that (a) he has notified High School Team to cease play-
ing ball in center field and' (b) that preparations are being made
to add six feet of fence to the existing six foot fence.
Temporarily adjourned at 8:00 P.''i• to meet as Board
of Survey.
The meeting reconvened at 8: 20 P.M. '
Read note from Superintendent that arrangements have
been made for the Board to visit the Billerica Filter Plant
on Wednesday, May 6, 1959, at 7:30 P.M. The Chemist and
operator of the plant will conduct the Board on a tour of it.
The Board was adjourned at 8:40 P.M.
