The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works
opened at 7 :30 P.M.
Chairman Zanni, Secretary Harrison, hessrs . Donahue,
Florence, Leonard and Superintendent Welch were present.
The records of the previous meeting were read and
approved.
Received letter from Selectmen protesting the use of
the so called rubbish cage at the south side of the fire alarm
repair shed on Parker St.
Referred to Superintendent for report.
Considered note from Superintendent relative to pur-
chase of 2 steel tables, 5 swivel chairs and one arm chair for
Board Room. Money is available in Adm. appropriation.
It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the pur-
chase of the above mentioned furniture .
It was moved, seconded and voted to instruct Superin-
tendent to obtain a price on a 5 drawer letter size steel filing
cabinet.
Considered petition from 16 abuttors on Henzie St. and
Grove St. requesting that the ditch in the rear of the northerly
side of Henzie St, and the easterly side of Grove St. be cleaned,
deepened and widened .
Superintendent reported that before this work could be
done it will be necessary to obtain easements.

It was moved, seconded and voted to place the petition on '
file pending the completion of a survey, the obtaining of
easements and the availability of funds .
Temporarily adjourned at 8:00 P.M . to meet as
Board of Survey.
The meeting reconvened at 8:15 P.M.
Conferred at length with Mr. Bogren, of Weston and
Sampson, Consulting Engineers, relative to remodelling, en-
larging and changing the style of the present Filter Plant.
Mr. Bogren explained the functions of the present
plant and the functions of the proposed plant. Mr. Bogren
guaranteed that, for the sum of the appropriation, namely
?12,000 that complete plans, specifications and contracts '
Would be prepared . He further agreed that these items would
be completed by Dec. 1, 1959 .
Considered note from Superintendent calling attention
of Board to the fact that, on application by the owner, water
service pipes are replaced in full at a fee of 542.50 per foot
from the main to the house while partial replacements due to
leaks are made free of charge .
The matter was discussed at some length. It was moved,
seconded and voted to place the matter on the table for future
discussions .
Considered note from Superintendent stating that the
Selectmens Account for the Community Center was, in effect, in '
the red and suggesting that the service pipe construction bill
of $6686.15 be abated with reluctance .

' It was moved, seconded and voted to abate the bill and
to notify the Selectmen that it was done with much reluctance
and with the hope that a similar situation would not arise again.
Discussed possible use of a rigid frame steel building
be used for the Garage Extension.
It was moved, seconded and voted to place the matter on
file.
Received letter from Board Member, Mr. Donahue requesting
that steps be taken to repair the illuminated sign onthe Common.
After some discussion it was moved, seconded and voted to write
the Selectmen and suggest a conference on the matter.
Considered note from Superintendent relative to metnod
and time of taking bids. In essence Superintendent suggests that
bids be taken in the afternoon of a specified day instead of in
the evening at a Board Meeting. Bids to be opened and read in
the afternoon and then listed and presented to the Board at the
next meeting.
It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the proposed
method of taking bids providing that the Town Counsel also
approves.
Read note from Superintendent that arrangements have
been made to employ Mr. Roger iouanis as Asst. Civil Engineer at
a salary of �ilO.00 per week.
It was moved , seconded and voted to approve the action.
Read letter from Board Member, Mr. Donahue, requesting
' that the rule on sidewalk construction by blocks only be sus-

pended and a permanent type sidewalk be installed in front of '
48 Linden Street.
It was moved, seconded and voted to postpone action
pending a visit to the site .
