The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7:30 P.M.
Messrs. Donahue, Florence, Harrison, Leonard and Zanni and
Superintender_t Welch were present.
Mr. Zanni was elected temporary chairman.
Mr. Leonard nominfated Mr. Donahue for Chairman.
Mr. Florence nominated Mr. Zanni for Chairman.
Mr. Zanni nominated Mr. Harrison for Chairman.
'It was moved, seconded and voted that the nominations be closed.
It was -moved, seconded and voted that the voting be by ballot.
The Board then proceeded to ballot for Chairman. On the first
ballot the result was as follows:
Mr. Zanni - 3 votes
Mr. Donahue 1 vote
Mr. Harrison 1 vote
Mr. Zanni being elected Chairman he assumed the Chair.
Mr. Florence was nominated for Secretary.
Mr. Harrison was nominated for SPeretary.
Mr. Donahue'was nominated for Secretary.
Mr. Donahue requested th,,:t his nomination be withdrawn.
It was moved, seconded and voted that the nominations be closed.
It was moved, seconded and voted that the voting be by ballot.
On the first ballot the result was as follows:
Mr. Harrison - 3 votes
Mr. Florence - 2 votes
Mr. Harrison being elected Secretary he assumed the office.
' Mr. Philip Welch was appointed Superintendent for one year by
a unanimous vote.
Records of previous meeting read and approved.

Bids taken at 5:00 P.M. on proposed extension to the Municipal
Garage. '
A list of bidders is attached hereto and herewith becomes a
part of these records.
Held conference with Town Counsel. He stated that If Board
feels that roofing Stem exceeds $,1,000, all bids will have to be
rejected and project readvertlsed as per provisions of Chapter 149.
Received letter from Postmaster requesting permission to
anchor ten mail boxes to permanent sidewalks in various locations.
It was moved, seconded and voted to grant the request.
Considered request of Joseph Enos, 492 West, St, that his
sewer assessment of $513.25 be abated.
Matter was discussed in detail.
It was moved, seconded and voted not to abate any part of the ,
sewer assessment.
Received notice from Selectmen that there will be a special
Town Meeting on Monday, March 23, 1959.
Superintendent reported that an Article for the acceptance of
Cape Cod Avenue had been Inserted in the Warrant.
Discussed possibility of proposing motion at the Special Town
Meeting to establish a Committee to make a survey of personnel problems
pf Labor Force.
Matter was placed on file.
Received letter from Mr. William Delano, Jr. , 98 Summer Avenue,
making reference to a petition for a sewer in Summer Ave. ' from West St.
to near No. 106. Superintendent reported that this pro,jebt is included
in the sewer program for the year 1963. '
Received letter from Mr. Donahue desoribing' bis survey of the
ditch conditions abutting the rear of the houses on the northerly side

of Arcadia Avenue and requesting that the Board request the Realty
Trust to construct the chain link fence that was promised.
Read letter from Mr. Cioffi, 43 Arcadia Ave, relative to same
subject.
Conferred with Mr. Frank Cioffi, Mr. Donald Tryts, Mr. Francis
Duclos and Mr. Norman Powers relative to same matter.
It was moved, seconded and voted to write Realty Trust a strong
but factual letter requesting immediate construction of the fence with
the provision that the letter be approved by the Town Counsel before
It is sent.
Received letter from Library Trustees requesting a barrier be
erected at the rear of the Library end the Municipal Building, to
prevent bicycle riders using walkway to Woburn St.
Read note from Mr. Donahue relative to furnishing e¢B��oard more

detailed information when making payments to contractors listing
sheet.
It was suggested that Board reconsider methods of assessing
betterments on Corner lots.
Superintendent will study matter.
