The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was opened
at 7:30 P.M.
Chairman Donahue, Messrs. Florence, Harrison, Kilgore and Super-
intendent Welch were present.
Mr. Florence acted as Secretary.
Records of previous two meetings read and approved.
Architect Watts submitted plans for Garage Extension. . Plans were
left at home of Superintendent by Mr. Watts. It was moved, seconded
and voted to note the receipt of the plans and to instruct Superintendent
to establish a date for accepting bids.
Considered Sewer Construction Program for years 1959 to 1963.
Postponed action.
Considered suggested Storm Drain Construction program for 1959.
It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the following projects:
1. Cross St. - Replace 30 inch pipe in easement.
2. Pleasant St. - Replace Culvert at Hunt Park.
3; Joseph Way - Pipe in Easement.
44 Sanborn St. - northerly from Woburn St.
5. Bear Hill Rd. & Hopkins St. - to Main St.
6. Charles St. - Added Culvert at Timberneck Ditch.
7. Cape Cod Ave. - Drain from Rear of houses.
8. Timberneck Ditch - northerly from Charles St.
9. Various Locations - Catch Basins & Short Drains.
Considered note from Superintendent relative to Water Articles in
1959 Budget.
It was moved, seconded and voted to submit the following changes
to the Finance Committee:
1. Increase 1959 Water Construction Appropriation from
$33,000. to $36,000.
2. Increase proposed Bond Issue for Water Mains from
' $60,000. to $75,000.
3. Transfer $12,000. from Water Available Surplus to Filter
Plant Design instead of borrowing funds from Federal Agency.
Considered note from Superintendent suggesting a Capital Budget
Program for the years 1960 to 1964. After an extended discussion
many changes were made in program.
It was moved, seconded and voted to submit the program as amended
a copy of which is attached hereto and herewith becomes a part of these
records.
Considered note from Superintendent and letter from Weston & Samp-
son relative to cost of gravel walled well in Revay Meadow. Cost is to
be based on October 1957 Contract with D. Mahar Co.
It was moved, seconded and voted to approve installation of the
well based on prices in October 1957 Contract of D. L. Mahar Co.
Superintendent was instructed to write Weston & Sampson for an
opinion as to the merits of operating the standby motor on butane gas
fuel instead of gasoline.
Considered note from Superintendent relative to a claim from a r
James Walsh of the Transitron Company that the Town agreed to make the
sewer connection to the Trancoa plant on Ash Street. free of charge.
Hence bill they received for $2,300. should be abated.
It was moved, seconded and voted that the Town did not agree to
make the connection free of charge and hence no abatement will be made
on the bill.
Received letter from State Department of Public Works listing
1959 Chap. 90 Const. and Chap. 90 Maint. allotments. It was noted
that the resurfacing of Lowell Street has been eliminated.
It was moved, seconded and voted to instruct Superintendent to
write a letter to the State Department of Public Works, protesting the
elimination of Lowell Street from the 1959 projects .
' Considered plan submitted by First National Stores showing a
proposed alteration of the driveway off Franklin Street. Its in effect,
proposes that the driveway be widened from 36 feet to 50 feet.
It was moved, seconded andvoted to approve the proposed alteration.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 P.M.
