HESTING OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS OPENED AT
7:30 P.M. IN ROOM 18, MUNICIPAL BUILDING.
PRESENT WERE CHAIRMAN HODGKINS, SECRETARY FLORENCE,
BOARD MEMBERS COCHRANE AND WHITE AND ACTING SUPERINTENDENT
E. R. LOUANIS.
MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING READ AND APPROVED.
READ NOTE FROM MR. LOUANIS REGARDING POSSIBLE
CHANGE IN THE PRESENT DISPOSAL AREA SCHEDULE. THE BOARD
DISCUSSED SHORTENING OF THE DUMPING HOURS, MORE POLICING
BY THE CARETAKERS AND CLOSING ON CERTAIN HOLIDAYS,
MR. COCHRANE MOVED THAT EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 29,
L THE DUMP HOURS WILL BE CHANGED AS FOLLOWS: - OPEN 7:00 A.M.
TO 5:00 P.M. TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY - CLOSED ON THE FOLLOW-
ING HOLIDAYS - NEW YEARS DAY, WASHINGTON 'S BIRTHDAY,
MEMORIAL DAY, INDEPENDENCE DAY, LABOR DAY, THANKSGIVING
DAY AND CHRISTMAS DAY; MR. WHITE SECONDED AND IT WAS VOTED.
THESE RULES WILL BE IN EFFECT UNTIL REVISED BY THE BOARD.
READ LETTER FROM THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN ENCLOSING
COPY OF LETTER FROM RAYMOND COUTURE WHICH STATED THAT A
CLIENT HAD AUTHORIZED HIM TO SUBMIT AN OFFER OF $8, 800. 00
r TO PURCHASE A PARCEL OF PROPERTY OWNED BY THE TOWN OF
f READING LOCATED AT THE CORNER OF UNION AND MIDDLE STREETS,
L CONTAINING 15, 9¢0 SQUARE FEET, TO BE USED FOR BUILDING
APARTMENTS. ACCORDING TO MR. LOUANIS, THE BOARD OF PUBLIC
WORKS HAS NO USE FOR THE PROPERTY BUT SUGGESTED THAT IT
MIGHT BE USED FOR OFF-STREET PARKING FOR THE SQUARE AREA.
MR. CiOCHRANE MOVED THAT THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN
BE ADVISED OF THE RECOMMENDATION THAT THE PROPERTY BE USED
FOR OFF-STREET PARKING, MR. FLORENCE SECONDED AND IT WAS
VOTED.
READ LETTER FROM RALPH P. CIARDIELLO REQUESTING
THAT THE TOWN OF READING 'TAKE A DEED OF EASEMENT OVER LOT
#5 ON PEARL STREET. ACCORDING TO MR. LOUANIS, MR. CIARDIEL-
LO IS BUILDING A NEW HOME ON A LOT WHERE THE TOWN AND STATE
HAVE BEEN DUMPING WATER FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. MR. CIAR-
DIELLO IS BEING SUED BY HIS NEIGHBOR. ACCORDING TO MR.
LOUANIS, MR. CIARDIELLO WILL LAY THE PIPE AND GIVE THE TOWN
AN EASEMENT AND REQUESTS THAT THE TOWN INSTALL A CATCH BASIN.
MR. COCHRANE MOVED THAT MR. CIARDIELLO GIVE THE
TOWN THE EASEMENT, LAY THE PIPE AND BUILD A CATCH BASIN AT
HIS OWN EXPENSE, ACCORDING TO THE TOWNS SPECIFICATIONS,
MR. WHITE SECONDED AND IT WAS VOTED.
READ LETTER FROM LESTER C. PEABODY, TRUSTEE,
NORMANDY REALTY TRUST, REQUESTING THAT THE SANITARY SEWER
MAIN BE BROUGHT IN THROUGH BALSAM ROAD TO SERVICE THE
BALANCE OF THE RED GATE AREA WHICH WILL BE CONTINUED NEXT
SPRING .
f HR. LOUANIS WAS INSTRUCTED TO NOTIFY N.R. PEABODY
` THAT THE BOARD WOULD HAKE EVERY EFFORT TO HAVE THE SEWER
MAIN AVAILABLE TO THE DEVELOPMENT NEXT YEAR.
THE BOARD SIGNED THE CHAIN LINK FENCE CONTRACT -
BAY STATE FENCE COMPANY - AND BILLROLL DATED OCTOBER 4.
