MEETING OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS OPENED AT
7:30 P.M. IN ROOM 16, MUNICIPAL BUILDING.
PRESENT WERE CHAIRMAN HODGKINS, SECRETARY FLORENCE,
BOARD PIEMBERS COCHRANE, WATT AND WHITE, ACTING SUPERINTENDENT
WATSON AND TOWN ENGINEER E. R. LOUANIS•
MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING READ AND APPROVED AS
AMENDED.
THE BOARD DISCUSSED LETTER FROM RECREATION COMMITTEE
REQUESTING TRANSFER OF THE LITTLE LEAGUE FIELD FACILITY ON
PLEASANT STREET TO THE JURISDICTION OF THE READING RECREATION
' COMMITTEE. ACCORDING TO SUPERINTENDENT WELCH, IT WOULD TAKE
A VOTE OF THE TOWN MEETING TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUEST. THE
TOWN VOTED AT A SPECIAL TOWN MEETING ON DECEMBER 1, 1952 TO
PLACE THE FIELD UNDER THE CONTROL AND SUPERVISION OF THE
BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND TO INCLUDE IT IN THE PUBLIC PARK
SYSTEM OF THE TOWN. A SIMPLE MOTION BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC
WORKS WOULD NOT SUFFICE. MR. WATT WAS OF THE OPINION THAT
THE RECREATION COMMITTEE SHOULD INITIATE A PETITION AND IN-
SERT AN ARTICLE IN THE WARRANT FOR TRANSFER OF THE FACILITY.
MR. WHITE SAW NO NEED FOR THE CHANGE IN JURISDICTION.
MR. WATT MOVED, MR. COCHRANE SECONDED AND IT WAS
' VOTED UNANIMOUSLY TO SEND A LETTER TO THE RECREATION COMMIT-
TEE REQUESTING THAT THE LETTER BE REPHRASED AND INCLUDE '
COPY OF THE SPECIAL TOWN MEETING VOTE.
READ LETTER FROM JOSEPH P. FRASER, REPRESENTING
THE TENNYSON ROAD CLUB, 44 TENNYSON ROAD, REQUESTING PER-
MISSION TO CLOSE OFF AND OCCUPY TENNYSON ROAD FROM 1 :00
P.M. TO 11 :00 P.M. ON SATURDAY, .TUNE 8 TO HOLD THEIR
ANNUAL REUNION; IN CASE OF INCLEMENT WEATHER, THE SAME
TIME ON SATURDAY, JUNE 15, 1968.
MR. COCHRANE MOVED, MR. FLORENCE SECONDED AND
IT WAS VOTED TO APPROVE THE REQUEST.
THE BOARD DISCUSSED AT LENGTH THE PROBLEMS IN-
VOLVED WHEN LICENSING DRAIN LAYERS AND THE RULES AND '
REGULATIONS. THE ITEM WAS LAID ON THE TABLE .
MESSRS. FLORENCE AND WATSON LEFT THE MEETING TO
ATTEND A HEARING IN THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN 'S OFFICE RE-
GARDING THE BRADFORD-FIELDING ROAD AREA.
PUBLIC HEARING WAS HELD AT 8:00 P.M. REGARDING
THE PROPOSED RENAMING OF ILAKEVIEW ROAD (PUBLIC) WHICH RUNS
IN A NORTHEASTERLY DIRECTION FROM SALEM STREET TO A DEAD
END.
SIX PERSONS ATTENDED THE HEARING. &BRIDGE
ROAD HAD BEEN SUGGESTED. THE NAME OF CANTERBURY DRIVE
WAS PROPOSED BY HARVEY H. MCNEIL. AFTER A SHORT DISCUSSION, '

THE ABUTTORS VOTED UNANIMOUSLY IN FAVOR OF THE NEWLY PRO-
POSED NAME.
MR. COCHRANE MOVED THAT THE BOARD ACCEPT CANTER-
BURY DRIVE AS THE NAME OF THE PUBLIC WAY, LAKEVIEW ROAD;
MR. WATT SECONDED AND IT WAS VOTED.
PUBLIC HEARING WAS HELD AT 8:30 P.M. REGARDING
THE PROPOSED RENAMING OF SUNNYSIDE ROAD (PUBLIC) WHICH RUNS
IN A NORTHEASTERLY DIRECTION FROM SALEM STREET TO A DEAD
END.
FIVE PERSONS ATTENDED THE HEARING. MOORE ROAD
HAD BEEN SUGGESTED. THE NAME OF GOVERNORS DRIVE WAS PRO-
POSED BY MR. AND MRS. EGON NELSON. WHEN POLLED, THE
ABUTTORS VOTED IN FAVOR OF THE NEWLY PROPOSED NAME.
MR. COCHRANE MOVED THAT THE BOARD ACCEPT
GOVERNORS DRIVE AS THE NAME OF THE PUBLIC WAY, SUNNYSIDE
ROAD; MR. WHITE SECONDED AND IT WAS VOTED.
MESSRS. FLORENCE AND WATSON REJOINED THE MEETING.
THE BOARD MET WITH WESLEY EHRENZELLER AND GEORGE
FICKETT OF THE AMERICAN DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION
WHO SHOWED A SHORT TECHNICAL FILM ON THE MELT-ZIT FACILITY
IN WHITMAN.
THE FILM WILL BE SHOWN AND NARRATED AT THE SPECIAL
TOWN MEETING ON JUNE ZO. MR. HODGKINS STATED THAT IT WOULD
BE A REPORT OF PROGRESS AND WOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED AS AN
ENDORSEMENT BY THE BOARD. THE FILM WILL BE PRECEDED BY A ,
THREE-MINUTE TALK BY THE CHAIRMAN•
THE BOARD DISCUSSED THE TECHNICAL FACETS OF THE
FACILITY IN DETAIL.
THE BOARD REMOVED FROM THE TABLE THE ITEM OF LI-
CENSED DRAIN LAYERS. AIR, COCHRANE MOPED THAT DONALD ZANNI
BE GRANTED A LICENSED DRAIN LAYER IS PERMIT. AIR. WHITE
SECONDED THE MOTION WITH THE PROVISO THAT AT THE CONCLUSION
OF THREE CONNECTIONS, THE TOWN ENGINEER REPORT TO THE BOARD
HIS OPINION OF THE WORK. IT WAS SECONDED AND VOTED.
THE BOARD SIGNED BILLROLL DATED MAY 30 AND COM-
MITMENT SHEET - VARIOUS HOUSE CONNECTIONS. '

Town of Rcading, in compliance with the provisions of
General Laws, Chapter 50, as amended by Chapter 63 of the
Acts of 1933. hereby certify that the list herewith contains
the names of persons against whom we have made betterment
assessments, together with the location of the land benefited
by the improvement and the nature and amount of such better-
ment assessment.
