THE BOARD MET IN THE TOWN HALL PARKING AREA AT
7:00 P.H. AND VISITED THE JOB SITE OF THE NORTHEAST INTER-
CEPTOR SEWER CONSTRUCTION.
THE MEETING OPENED AT 7:35 P.M. IN Room 16,
MUNICIPAL BUILDING. PRESENT WERE CHAIRMAN HODGKINS, SECRE-
TARY FLORENCE, BOARD MEMBERS COCHRANE, WATT AND WHITE,
ACTING SUPERINTENDENT WATSON AND TOWN ENGINEER E. R. LoUANIs.
MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING READ AND APPROVED.
READ COPY OF LETTER TO TOWN COUNSEL FROM WILLIAM
H. DIAMOND IN REGARD TO ALLEGED OBSTRUCTION IN AREA KNOWN
' AS BRADFORD ROAD. IT WAS ACCEPTED AS A POINT OF INFORMA-
TION.
READ LETTER FROM RICHARD C. EVANS, CHAIRMAN,
RECREATION COMMITTEE, REQUESTING THAT THE BOARD OF PUBLIC
WORKS TRANSFER THE LITTLE LEAGUE FACILITY ON PLEASANT STREET
TO THE JURISDICTION OF THE READING RECREATION COMMITTEE WHO
WOULD THEN BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ITS USE AND RECOMMEND TO THE
BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS ANY NECESSARY REPAIRS IN THE FUTURE.
IT WAS AGREED TO TABLE THE ITEM UNTIL JUNE 3 AT
WHICH TIME AN INTERPRETATION OF THE JURISDICTION OF THE
LITTLE LEAGUE FIELD WILL BE AVAILABLE.
' READ NOTE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT REGARDING THE
REQUEST OF DONALD ZANNI OF DANA ROAD THAT HE BE MADE A
LICENSED DRAIN LAYER, MR. ZANNI 'S QUALIFICATIONS WERE ,
DISCUSSED.
THE BOARD ADJOURNED TO ROOM 2 WHERE PUBLIC HEAR-
ING WAS HELD AT 8:00 P.M. IN REGARD TO CONSTRUCTION OF
BITUMINOUS CONCRETE SIDEWALKS AND THE INSTALLATION OF
GRANITE SLOPE CURBING, UNDER THE BETTERMENT ACT, IN THE
FOLLOWING LOCATIONS:
BANCROFT AVENUE - LOWELL STREET TO WOBURN STREET
WASHINGTON STREET - VILLAGE STREET TO MAIN STREET
THIRTEEN PERSONS ATTENDED THE HEARING. SIDEWALKS, STREET
RESURFACING AND DRAINAGE WERE DISCUSSED AT LENGTH, THE
ABUTTORS, WHEN POLLED, VOTED AS FOLLOWS: ,

MR. LOUANIS ANSWERED TECHNICAL QUESTIONS AND EXPLAINED THE
PLANS TO THE ABUTTORS.
THE BOARD RECONVENED IN ROOM 18.
READ NOTE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT REGARDING BIDS
FOR CONSTRUCTING BETTERMENT STREETS. THE BOARD DISCUSSED
THE STATUS OF THE THREE BIDDERS.
N.R. WATT MOVED THAT THE BOARD SUBMIT IN THE WAR- '
RANT ARTICLES FOR AN ADDITIONAL $15, 000. 00 TO COVER THE
' AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION OF HIGHWAYS AND DRAINAGE CONTRACT TO
THE LAWRENCE SAND & STONE COMPANY, MR. COCHRANE SECONDED AND
IT WAS VOTED.
THE BOARD REMOVED FROM THE TABLE THE APPLICATION OF
DONALD ZANNI AS A LICENSED DRAIN LAYER. THE BOARD DISCUSSED
INTERPRETATION OF THE PERFORMANCE BOND. IT WAS AGREED TO TABLE
THE ITEM UNTIL JUNE 3.
THE BOARD ADJOURNED TEMPORARILY AT 9:35 P.M. TO MEET
AS THE BOARD OF SURVEY.
THE BOARD RECONVENED AT 9:45 P.M.
READ PETITION AND AGREEMENT FOR PERMANENT TYPE SIDE-
WALK SIGNED AND FILED BY MISS C. MILDRED TUTTLE, 59 FEDERAL
STREET. MR. FLORENCE MOVED, MR. WHITE SECONDED AND IT WAS
' VOTED TO APPROVE THE PETITION AND GRANT PERMIT,
THE BOARD DISCUSSED BRIEFLY REPORT OF AMERICAN DE-
SIGN & DEVELOPMENT ON INCINERATION. MR. WATT MOVED, MR.
COCHRANE SECONDED AND IT WAS VOTED TO AUTHORIZE MR. WATSON TO
STRIKE OUT OF THE BILLROLL THE AMOUNT OF $5, 500. 00 DUE AMERI-
CAN DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT.
THE BOARD TOOK UP THE INSTALLATION OF SIDEWALKS AND
.SLOPE CURB ON WASHINGTON STREET WEST SIDE) VILLAGE STREET TO
TO MAIN STREET, AND BANCROFT AVENUE (WEST SIDE LOWELL STREET
TO WOBURN STREET. MR. FLORENCE MOVED, MR. WHITE SECONDED AND
IT WAS VOTED . TO INSTALL SIDEWALKS AND SLOPE CURB.
THE BOARD SIGNED PAYROLL FOR THE PERIOD MAY 16
' THROUGH MAY 24 AND BILLROLL DATED MAY 24.
