' MEETING OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS OPENED AT
7:30 P.M. IN ROOM 16, MUNICIPAL BUILDING.
PRESENT WERE CHAIRMAN HODGKINS, SECRETARY
FLORENCE, BOARD MEMBERS COCHRANE AND WHITE, ACTING SUPER-
INTENDENT WATSON AND TOWN ENGINEER E. R. LOUANIS.
MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING READ AND APPROVED.
READ COPY OF LETTER TO THE SELECTMEN FROM THE
LAND BANK COMMITTEE RECOMMENDING THE RETENTION OF LOTS
33-45 INCLUSIVE, PLAT 93, SUNNYSIDE ROAD. THE DATA WAS
ACCEPTED AS A POINT OF INFORMATION.
READ LETTER FROM AARON DUBITZKY, P. E. , OFFERING
' TO DEPOSIT WITH THE TOWN THE SUM OF APPROXIMATELY $20, 000. 00
AS AN ADVANCEMENT TOWARDS FUTURE REAL ESTATE TAXES ON HIS
PROPOSED TWO STORES WHICH ARE PRESENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION
ON SALEM STREET. HE DID THIS TO INDUCE THE PUBLIC WORKS
DEPARTMENT TO CONSTRUCT THE SANITARY SEWER IN THAT PORTION
OF SALEM STREET ABUTTING HIS PROPERTY, THUS ENABLING HIM
TO CONNECT THE ABOVE-MENTIONED BUILDINGS TO THAT SANITARY
SEWER. ACCORDING TO MR. LOUANIS, THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS
CANNOT ACCEPT THE MONEY. IT WAS HIS SUGGESTION THAT MR.
DUBITZKY RUN THE SEWER OUT THE BACK OF THE STORE TO THE
INTERCEPTOR SEWER THROUGH LAND KNOWN AS GREEN STREET EX-
TENSION WHICH WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $8, 000. 00. THE
BOARD DISCUSSED POSSIBLE PURCHASE BY Na. DUBITZKY OF CER- ,
j TAIN LOTS OF LAND OWNED BY THE TOWN.
1R. WHITE MOVED THAT THE BOARD APPROVE THE
SEWERAGE ARRANGEMENT WHEREBY DUBITZKY ET AL MAY CONNECT
TO THE PRESENTLY PLANNED INTERCEPTOR SEWER WITH AN EXTEN-
SION IN SO-CALLED GREEN STREET WITH THE PROVISO THAT
DUBITZKY ET AL OBTAIN SEWERAGE AT SUCH TIME AS THE INTER-
CEPTOR SEWER IS AVAILABLE. THE BOARD MAKES NO COMMITMENT
AS TO WHEN THE SEWER INTERCEPTOR WILL BE AVAILABLE. THE
COST OF THE EXTENSION IS TO BE BORNE BY DUBITZKY ET AL.
THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS THROUGH ITS ENGINEERING DIVISION
WILL ASSIST WITH THE ENGINEERING AND IN OBTAINING EASEMENTS.

MVR. COCHRANE SECONDED THE MOTION AND IT WAS VOTED.
PUBLIC HEARING WAS HELD IN BOOM 2 AT 6:00 P.N.
REGARDING THE PROPOSED RENAMING OF LAKEVIEW (PUBLIC) ROAD
WHICH RUNS IN A NORTHEASTERLY DIRECTION FROM SALEM STREET
TO A DEAD END. YOUR PERSONS ATTENDED THE HEARING. THE
PURPOSE OF THE HEARING WAS BASICALLY TO OBTAIN SUGGESTIONS
FOR THE RENAMING OF THE STREET. THERE WERE NO SUGGESTIONS.
WHEN POLLED, THE ABUTTORS VOTED AS FOLLOWS: IN FAVOR - 2,

ING PERMISSION TO OCCUPY THE READING COMMON ON JUNE a FOR

' THE PURPOSE OF HOLDING THE ANNUAL SPRING ART FESTIVAL.
MR. COCHRANE MOVED THAT PERMISSION BE GRANTED, MR. WHITE
SECONDED AND IT WAS VOTED.
READ PETITION SIGNED BY THE ABUTTORS OF BOSWELL
ROAD REQUESTING EXTENSION OF THE CHARLES STREET SEWER
LINE INTO THE BOSWELL ROAD AREA AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO
ALLEVIATE THE SERIOUS DRAINAGE PROBLEM EXISTING THERE.
RECEIPT OF THE PETITION WILL BE ACKNOWLEDGED AND THE RE-
QUEST PLACED ON FILE.
READ LETTER FROM ROBERT AND DOROTHY COSTELLO,
3 FIELDING ROAD, REQUESTING THAT BEFORE THE BOULDERS SEAL-
ING OFF THE WAY BETWEEN FIELDING AND BRADFORD ROADS ARE
REMOVED, THAT THEY BE NOTIFIED. ACCORDING TO MR. WATSON,
THIS IS A NEIGHBORHOOD DISPUTE WHICH HAS BEEN IN EXISTENCE
FOR SEVERAL YEARS. NIR. BOOTH, WHO RESIDES AT 13 FIELDING
ROAD, HAS HAD INSTALLED A CHAIN LINK FENCE ACROSS BRADFORD
ROAD ON A CONTINUATION OF HIS REAR LOT LINE AND THEN SOUTH-
EASTERLY ALONG THE BOSTON & MAINE RIGHT-OF-WAY TO FIELDING
ROAD. THIS HAS RESULTED IN MANY CALLS TO THE TOWN MALL
AND POLICE DEPARTMENT.
Na. FLORENCE QUESTIONED THE POSSIBILITY OF RUN-
MING THE SEWER LINE THROUGH THIS AREA IN THE NEAR FUTURE,
' AND CONNECTING TO THE PUMPING STATION. MR. LOUANIS

ANSWERED IN THE AFFIRMATIVE.
MR. COCHRANE MOVED, PIR. FLORENCE SECONDED AND
IT WAS VOTED TO ACCEPT THE LETTER AS A POINT OF INFORMA-
TION UNTIL SUCH TIME AS FURTHER ACTION MAY BE NECESSARY.
READ INFORMATION PREPARED BY THE ACTING SUPER-
INTENDENT ON THE COST OF #Z FUEL OIL, SERVICE AND PARTS
FOR THE PERIOD JULY 1967-68. IT WAS ACCEPTED AS A POINT
OF INFORMATION.
THE BOARD DISCUSSED RECENT VANDALISM AT MEMORIAL
PARK. IT WAS AGREED THAT THE DEPARTMENT WOULD DO NO REPAIR
WORK UNTIL AFTER MAY 15 AT WHICH TIME THE SUBJECT WOULD BE
DISCUSSED AT THE JOINT MEETING OF THE BOARD AND STANDING
COMMITTEES.
THE BOARD ADJOURNED TEMPORARILY AT 8:45 P.M. TO
MEET AS THE BOARD OF SURVEY.
THE BOARD RECONVENED AT 9:00 P.M.
THE BOARD CONFERRED WITH THE RECREATION COM-
MITTEE AND PIESSRS. WARNICK AND WHITE OF THE READING LITTLE
LEAGUE AND DISCUSSED IN DETAIL TEMPORARY AND PERMANENT
LITTLE LEAGUE FIELDS AND PROPOSED RECREATION PROGRAM, AS
FOLLOWS:
1 . FINISH TENNIS COURT AT BIRCH MEADOW
2. BANG BOARD AT BIRCH MEADOW AND WASHINGTON '
PARK
' 3. COMBINATION COURT AT MSMORIAL PARK
¢. BACKSTOP AT BATCHELDER PROPERTY
5. MONIES LEFT TO GO TOWARD TEMPORARY LITTLE
LEAGUE FIELD AT BIRCH MEADOW. THE RECRE-
ATION COMMITTEE IS NOT IN FAVOR OF A
FENCE.
THE RECREATION COMMITTEE REQUESTED THAT THE COM-
BINATION COURT AT WASHINGTON PARK BE ELIMINATED FROM THE
PRESENT PROGRAM AND THAT THE MONEY BE USED TO INSTALL A
BACKSTOP AT THE BATCHELDER PROPERTY. A RULING WILL BE RE-
QUESTED FROM TOWN COUNSEL ON THE USE OF MONIES SET UP FOR
WASHINGTON PARK.
IT WAS SUGGESTED AND AGREED THAT THE RECREATION
COMMITTEE WILL SUBMIT A PROGRAM IMMEDIATELY AFTER LABOR
DAY FOR STUDY BY THE DEPARTMENT.

Town of Reading, in compliance with the provisions of
General Laws, Chapter 30, as amended by Chapter 63 of the
Acts of 133, hereby certify that the list herewith contains
the names of persons against whom we have made betterment
assessments, together with the location of the land benefited
by the improvement and the nature and amount of such better-
ment assessment.
And such list is certified to you for the purpose
of committing the some to the Tax Collector, as provided by
law.
