MEETING OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS OPENED AT
7:45 P.M. IN THE AUDITORIUM OF THE COMMUNITY CENTER, 52
SANBORN STREET.
PRESENT WERE CHAIRMAN HODGKINS, BOARD MEMBERS
FLORENCE AND KENNEY AND TOWN ENGINEER E. R. LOUANIS.
PUBLIC HEARING WAS HELD AT 7:45 P.M. REGARDING
THE PROPOSED EXTENSION OF THE MAIN TRUNK SANITARY SEWER IN
THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS:
1. BEACON AND AUBURN STREETS

1` MISCELLANEOUS FORMS WERE PRESENTED TO EACH PERSON. ALL
QUESTIONS PROPOSED TO THE BOARD FROM THE FLOOR WERE ANSWERED.
AFTER THE MEETING, TECHNICAL QUESTIONS WERE ANSWERED BY
MEMBERS OF THE ENGINEERING STAFF.

THE BOARD RECONVENED IN Room 16, MUNICIPAL
BUILDING.
MR. WATSON, ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT, JOINED THE
MEETING.
MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING READ AND APPROVED.
MR. HODGKINS REPORTED ON HIS CONFERENCE WITH THE
FINANCE COMMITTEE REGARDING THE ARTICLE IN THE SPECIAL TOWN
MEETING WARRANT REQUESTING $150, 000 FROM THE TAX LEVY FOR
SEWERAGE WORK AND THE RECOMMENDATION BY THE FINANCE COMMIT-
TEE OF A $300, 000 BOND ISSUE FOR TWO YEARS.
IT WAS AGREED THAT THE BOARD WOULD REQUEST $150, 000
AT THE TOWN MEETING FROM THE TAX LEVY REALIZING FULL WELL THAT
THE FINANCE COMMITTEE WILL AMEND THE MOTION TO FRESENT ITS BID
FOR $300, 000. FACTS AND FIGURES WILL BE PREPARED TO SUPPORT
THE CLAIM WHY THE DEPARTMENT WISHES TO DELAY BONDING THE
WHOLE PROGRAM UNTIL AT LEAST 1970 WHEN IT WILL BE RECON-
SIDERED.
READ LETTER FROM THE UNION IN REGARD TO COLLECTIVE
BARGAINING. IT WAS ACCEPTED AS A POINT OF INFORMATION.
MR. HODGKINS STATED THAT IT IS THE OPINION OF THE
PERSONNEL BOARD THAT SHOULD THERE BE NO DECISION ON THE PART
' OF THE EMPLOYEES OF THE PUBLIC WORKS WHO HAVE CONE ON RECORD
AS REQUESTING UNION RECOGNITION, IT FEELS IT CANNOT ACT ON
THE RECLASSIFICATION SYSTEM UNLESS THEY WITHDRAW THEIR
AFFILIATION WITH THE UNION.
READ LETTER FROM EDWARD E. LUCCHINI, ZB CURTIS
STREET, REGARDING CONDITION OF HIS BASEMENT AFTER THE GRANT-
ING OF AN EASEMENT TO THE TOWN. ACCORDING TO Na. LUCCHINI,
THE BULLDOZER HAD PLUGGED A DRAINAGE PIPE WHICH THE FORMER
OWNER HAD INSTALLED TO TAKE CARE OF WATER PROBLEMS. MR.
WATSON STATED THAT THE DRAINAGE PIPE WAS AN ILLEGAL CONNEC-
TION. A DYE TEST THROUGH HIS TOILET FACILITIES SHOWED THAT
THE EFFLUENT WAS GOING INTO THE STORM DRAIN.
MR. COCHRANE JOINED THE MEETING. THE BOARD DIS-
CUSSED IN DETAIL CORRECTION OF THE PROBLEM. THE ENGI-
NEERING DIVISION WILL MAKE A SURVEY AND PRESENT IT TO THE
BOARD FOR CONSIDERATION.
THE BOARD SIGNED THE BILLROLL DATED FEBRUARY 2
AND PAYROLL FOR THE PERIOD JANUARY 27 THROUGH FEBRUARY 2.
MEETING ADJOURNED AT 10:4-0 P.M.
