MEETING OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS OPENED AT
7:30 P.M. IN ROOM 16, MUNICIPAL BUILDING.
PRESENT WERE CHAIRMAN IENNEY, SECRETARY HODGKINS,
BOARD MEMBER FLORENCE AND SUPERINTENDENT WELCH.
THE SUPERINTENDENT ANNOUNCED THAT THE MEETING
SCHEDULED FOR 8:00 P.M. WITH MR. EHRENZELLER OF AMERICAN
DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION HAD BEEN INDEFINITELY
POSTPONED. IT WAS AGREED THAT MR. WELCH WILL CALL MR.
EHRENZELLER ON FRIDAY IF HE HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED.
READ NOTE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT REGARDING
BALANCE IN THE SNOW AND ICE ACCOUNT - TOTALLY ABOUT
$5, 500. 00. ACCORDING TO MR. WELCH, THE AMOUNT IS NOT
ENOUGH TO COYER A SMALL STORM AND IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT
BOTH THE SELECTMEN AND THE FINANCE COMMITTEE BE NOTIFIED.
THE DATA WAS ACCEPTED AS A POINT OF INFORMATION.
THE BOARD ADJOURNED TEMPORARILY AT 7:45 P.M. TO
MEET AS THE BOARD OF SURVEY.
THE BOARD RECONVENED AT 7:55 P.M.
MR. COCHRANE JOINED THE MEETING .
READ LETTER FROM WHITMAN & HOWARD, INC. IN RE-
LATION TO REQUESTING A GRANT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF
LSUB-MAINS TO SERVE THE NORTHEAST SECTION OF READING. AC-
CORDING TO THE LETTER, THE FORM MUST BE SUBMITTED TO
THE DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT PRIOR TO
THE SUBMISSION OF THE ACTUAL APPLICATION FOR A GRANT. MR.
RENNEY, AS CHAIRMAN, SIGNED THE FORMS.
HR. RENNEY BROUGHT UP FOR DISCUSSION THE PARK-
ING AREA OF THE APARTMENT HOUSES AT HIGH AND WASHINGTON
STREETS. N.R. WELCH QUOTED FROM LETTER WRITTEN BY FORMER
TOWN COUNSEL UNDER DATE OF JULY ZB REGARDING ACCESS TO
PUBLIC WAYS. NR. JAMES RILLAM, TOWN COUNSEL, WILL BE CON-
TACTED AND INVITED TO CONFER WITH THE BOARD ON THE ABOVE
ON NOVEMBER 27.
THE BOARD DISCUSSED THE CAPITAL EXPENDITURES
PROGRAM WITH EDWARD CAMERON AND ROBERT NORDSTRAND, MEM-
BERS OF THE PUBLIC WORKS SUBCOMMITTEE OF THE FINANCE
COMMITTEE.
THE BOARD ALSO DISCUSSED AT LENGTH THE PRO-
POSED 1968 BUDGET. IT WAS AGREED THAT SHACKFORD ROAD
WOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE 1968 STREET ACCEPTANCE PROGRAM.
HR. COCHRANE MOVED THAT THE BOARD APPROVE THE
BUDGET AS AMENDED, MR. HODGKINS SECONDED AND IT WAS
VOTED .
MR. RENNEY REPORTED ON THE FIELD TRIP TO THE
TOWN FOREST WITH BENJAMIN NICHOLS AND JAMES PERRY. RECOM-
MENDATIONS WERE REFERRED TO THE SUPERINTENDENT WHO WILL
CHECK THE DATA AND REPORT BACK TO THE BOARD.
THE BOARD SIGNED THE FOLLOWING:
