PRESENT WERE CHAIRMAN KENNEY, SECRETARY HODGKINS, BOARD MEMBERS COCHRANE AND FLORENCE, AND SUPERINTENDENT -- WEL CH. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING READ AND APPROVED. READ LETTER FROM MISS BEVERLY M. AND MRS. PHOEBE L. HILLMAN, 427 PEARL STREET, REQUESTING THAT THE BOARD DI- SECT ARNOLD BAKER, WHO IS BUILDING A HOUSE ON BRIARWOOD AVENUE IN BACK OF THE AFOREMENTIONED PROPERTY, TO TAKE ALL PROVIDE THE NECESSARY ACTION TO PRO E THE HILLMANS WITH PIPING CONNECTIONS AND APPROPRIATE VALVES TO ENABLE AN UNOBSTRUCTED FLOW OF WATER FROM THE PRESENT OUTLET INTO HIS PROPOSED NEW UNDERGROUND PIPING OF THE BROOK. ACCORDING TO THE SUPERINTENDENT, THE PIPE AT 427 PEARL STREET WAS LAID WITHOUT THE KNOWLEDGE OR THE APPROVAL OF THE TOWN. MR. BAKER HAS NO OBJECTIONS TO CUTTING IN THE PIPE. IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT THE OWNERS CONTACT Na. BAKER AND MAKE THEIR OWN ARRANGEMENTS AND THAT THE HILLMANS SIGN A RELEASE IN FAVOR OF THE TOWN BEFORE THE PIPE FROM THE HOUSE IS CONNECTED TO THE PIPE WHICH MR. BAKER IS TO LAY IN THE DITCH. MR. COCHRANE MOVED, Na. FLORENCE SECONDED AND IT WAS VOTED THAT THE SUGGESTIONS AS OUTLINED BY THE SUPER- INTENDENT BE FOLLOWED. READ NOTE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT REGARDING HIS " VISIT TO THE ARLINGTON DUMP ON MAY 9 AND HIS COMMENTS THEREON. IT WAS ACCEPTED AS A POINT OF INFORMATION. READ LETTER FROM THE WAKEFIELD BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS REQUESTING APPROVAL OF A SEWER HOUSE CONNECTION TO SERVICE THE PROPERTY OF JAMES E. MALLON, 623 SUMMER AVENUE, READING . MR. COCHRANE MOVED, MR. FLORENCE SECONDED AND IT j WAS VOTED TO APPROVE THE REQUEST. READ LETTER FROM THE METROPOLITAN AREA PLANNING COUNCIL REGARDING APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL GRANT FOR SEWAGE TREATMENT WORKS UNDER PL 84-660. THE LETTER STATED THAT THE PROPOSED PROJECT IS CONSISTENT WITH THE OBJECTIVES OF COMPREHENSIVE REGIONAL WATER POLLUTION CONTROL PLAN. THE LETTER WAS ACCEPTED AS A POINT OF INFORMATION. THE BOARD REVIEWED BIDS RECEIVED FOR BACKHOE BUCKET TRACTOR. N.R. FLORENCE MOVED, MR. COCHRANE SECONDED AND IT WAS VOTED TO PURCHASE ONE (Z) MODEL ZBO DYNAHOE FROM CLARK-WILCOX AT A NET PRICE OF $15, 425. 00. RECEIVED SLOPED GRANITE CURB APPLICATIONS FROM KENNETH B. RIVERS, 39 MIDDLESEX AVENUE, AND J. EARL THOMP- SON, 11 GRAND STREET. THE APPLICATIONS WERE PLACED ON FILE. THE BOARD RECEIVED PETITION SIGNED BY 43 EMPLOYEES REQUESTING THAT THEY BE ALLOWED TO WORK ON SATURDAY, PLAY 20, IN LIEU OF MONDAY, PLAY 29, THE DAY BEFORE MEMORIAL DAY. IT WAS MOVED, SECONDED AND VOTED THAT THE REQUEST BE AP- PROVED. THE MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AGREED TO TAKE HOME FOR STUDY DATA PREPARED BY THE SUPERINTENDENT ON THE INCINERATOR PROBLEM. THE ITEM WILL BE ON THE AGENDA OF MAY 22. BIDS WERE OPENED AT 8:00 P.H. ON ONE (1) NEw 3/4- TON PICKUP TRUCK AS FOLLOWS: BLAIS-PORTER, INC. 1967 CHEV.MODEL #CS20804 NET $'1, 785. 00 NEWHOUSE MOTOR SALES, INC . 1967 DODGE D200 it 1, 961. 36 BIDS WERE TAKEN UNDER ADVISEMENT. PUBLIC HEARING WAS HELD IN ROOM 2 AT 8:15 P.M. IN REGARD TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF BITUMINOUS CONCRETE SIDEWALKS UNDER THE BETTERMENT ACT IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS: HARTSHORN STREET FROM JOHN CARVER ROAD TO WINTHROP AVENUE, SOUTH SIDE; OAK STREET FROM PINE RIDGE ROAD TO WEST STREET, SOUTH SIDE; INTERVALE TERRACE FROM LOWELL STREET TO JOHN CARVER ROAD, NORTH SIDE. FOURTEEN PERSONS ATTENDED THE HEARING. MR. KENNEY EX- PLAINED THE PURPOSE OF THE HEARING . THE ABUTTORS QUESTIONED THE REMOVAL OF TREES, DETERMINATION OF STREETS TO BE INCLUDED IN THE SIDEWALK PROGRAM AND THE RESURFAC- ING OF DRIVEWAYS. THE ABUTTORS WERE POLLED AS FOLLOWS: RON- IN FAVOR OPPOSED COMMITTAL HARTSHORN STREET - - OAK STREET 6 - INTERVALS TERRACE 4 2 3 10 2 3 THE ITEM WAS TAKEN UNDER ADVISEMENT. THE BOARD RECONVENED IN ROOM 16. THE BOARD SIGNED THE BILLROLL DATED MAY 12 AND PAYROLL FOR THE PERIOD MAY 6 THROUGH MAY 12. MEETING ADJOURNED AT 8:50 P.M. RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED, SECRETARY
