' Meeting of the Board of Public Works convened in Room 127 , Read-
ing Memorial High School at 7 : 10 P . M.
Present were Chairman Cowell , Secretary Wood , Board Members De-
'Hart, Fallon, Barker and Superintendent Louenis.
It was moved, seconded and voted 5 :0 to approve the minutes of
the meeting . of April 22nd as corrected .
The Board reviewed aletter from Town Counsel with two enclosures
concerning construction arbitration and accepted the material as a
point of information.
Following discussion it was moved, seconded and voted 5:0 to
contract with Weston and Sampson Engineers, Inc. for construction
arbitration engineering services and to sign the submitted proposal
dated March 17, 1980 .
Following discussion it was moved, seconded and voted 5:0 to
submit a request to D. E . Q . E . for a hearing for approval of lands
acquired for protection of water supply as suggested in their letter
dated April 17, 1980.
Following discussion it was moved, seconded and voted 5: 0 to grant
permission to New England Telephone and Telegraph Company to withdraw
without prejudice their petition dated February 15, 1980 to place
three poles on Main Street (easterly side) .
Following discussion it was moved, seconded and voted 5:0 to
grant permission to area residents to block off Tennyson Road from
11 :00 A.M. to 9 :00 P .M. on June 14, 1980 (rain date June 21) subject
to the normal requirements .
Following discussion it was moved, seconded and voted 5:0 to
grant permission to the Bluebirds to use Memorial Park on May 7 ,
1980 subject to the normal requirements .
Following discussion it was agreed to submit a list of concerns
to the Board of Appeals concerning the proposed nursing home on Salem
Street and to instruct the Superintendent to convey the Board ' s strong
feelings that any construction which would effect the roadway be
accomplished before the planned resurfacing of Salem Street.
Following discussion it was moved, seconded and voted 3: 1: 1 to
award the insecticide bids to Hartney Spray Corporation in the
amount of $4,482 .00.
It was moved, seconded and voted 5:0 to sign the commitment
letter dated April 26, 1980 for a sewer lateral in the amount of
$269 .50 .
The Board signed the Payroll for the period ending April 25,
1980 and the Bill Roll dated May 2 , 1980.
It was moved, seconded and voted to adjourn at 8 :05 P .M.
