HomeMy WebLinkAbout1981-07-13 Board of Public Works Minutes July 13, 1981 1 A meeting of the Board of Public Works convened in Room 16, Municipal Building at 7:40 P.M. Present were Chairman Cowell , Secretary Wood, Board Members DeHart and Fallon and Superintendent E. Roger Louanis. It was moved, seconded and voted 4:0 to accept the minutes of the meeting of the Board of Public Works of June 29 as amended. It was moved, seconded and voted 4:0 to accept the minutes of the meeting of the Board of Survey of June 29 as amended. Mrs. Wood moved that the Board of Public Works approve the request of Atlantic Food Mart, Inc. to install a receiving door on Haven Street with the stipulation that there be no deliveries accepted after 9:00 A.M. on weekdays and none after 8:00 A.M. on Saturdays, and the time element be reviewed in six months. Mr. DeHart seconded and it was voted 4:0. Mr. Stephen Cassidy, Plating Specialist, at Incon, 316 Ash Street, Reading, Ma. , formally requested an abatement from the Board for their sewer bill in the amount of $3,280.72. Mr. Cassidy stated the one water meter being read by the Town is being assessed for all water used in the plant and for all sewerage. 70.9% of their water does not go into the sewer. Mrs. Wood requested that Incon obtain some assurance from the E .P.A. that the water discharged is non-pollutant to the brook. Mrs. Wood moved that the Board take the request from Incon for a sewer abatement of $3,280.72 under advisement and instruct the Superintendent to work with Incon to see if an acceptable solution can be reached. Mr. DeHart seconded and it was voted 4:0. It was seconded and voted 4:0. Mrs. Wood moved that the Board award the Cleaning, Redeveloping and Backflushing and Removal of Existing Equipment at Gravel Packed Well #2 - Contract 81-16 - to D.L. Maher Company, in the amount of $6,035.50, subject to the procurement of the necessary performance and payment bonds. It was seconded and voted 4:0. Mrs. Wood moved that Contract 81-12 - Chain Link Fence Construc- tion be awarded to Methuen Fence Builders, Methuen, Ma. in the amount of $4,945.00, subject to the procurement of the necessary performance and payment bonds. It was seconded and voted 4:0. Mrs. Wood moved that Contract No. 81-17 - Stone Chip Seal Surface Treatment - be awarded to Bell and Flynn Company, Bunker Hill 1 Avenue, Stratham, N.H. , subject to the procurement of the necessary performance and payment bonds in the amount of $37,268.00. It was seconded and voted 4:0. Mrs. Wood moved that the Contract for Bituminous Materials be awarded to Heffron Asphalt Corp. , Salem Street, No. Wilmington, Ma. , subject to the procurement of the necessary performance and payment bonds in the amount of $57,860.00. It was seconded and voted 4:0. Mrs. Wood moved that the Board approve the Town Counsel Bills for April and May in the amounts of $72.00 and $292.50, respectively, It was seconded and approved 4:0. An item of interest brought up was the letter from Penn K. Michelini commending the Department of Public Works for the maintenance of the fields, specifically, Bud Dickey.
