A meeting of the Law Committee of the Town of Reading was
duly held in the Selectmen+ s Room in the Municipal Building on
Monday, April 12, 1948 at 9:00 otclock P.M. , notice of such
meeting having been forwarded to each of such members giving
the time and place thereof.
There were present Charles E. Wilkinson, Joseph H. Reed,
A. Perry Glover and Edward M. Halligan, M.D. , being a majority
of the Law Committee.
The Chairman called the meeting to order.
Dr. Edward M. Halligan was duly elected Secretary pro tem
for this meeting.
Samuel H. Davis was nominated as a candidate for Town
Counsel for the ensuing year and upon motion duly made and
seconded, Mr. Davis was unanimously choosen Town Counsel for
the term commencing April 15, 1948.
Mr. Davis thereafter was present at the meeting and report-
ed to the Committee relative to the settlement of damages for
the Taking of land of Mr. Ralph F. Heselton for the new High
School Building in Birch Meadow. Mr. Davis stated that a
proposition had been made to Mr. Heselton to pay him $8000.00
for all the land owned by him together with the buildings there-
on in Birch Meadow and Mr. Heselton was to submit the offer to

his Attorneys in Woburn for consideration. Mr. Davis stated
that if the offer was accepted, the Town would have to vote to
authorize the purchase of the remaining land of Heselton, not
included in the original vote adopted at the Annual Meeting in
March 1947.
Mr. Davis also reported to the Committee relative to the
matter of securing possession of the premises occupied by
( Tyr. John F. Ames on Oak Street and Summer Avenue, which premises
` the Town is now ready to use for the construction of the new
Elementary School at this location.
No further business being brought before the meeting, it was
upon motion duly made and seconded,
VOTED; To adjourn.
