HomeMy WebLinkAbout1948-02-09 Law Committee Minutes MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE LAW COMMITTEE HELD FEBRUARY 9, 1948 A meeting of the Law Committee of the Town of Reading was duly held in the Assessors' Rooms in the Municipal Building on Monday, February 9, 1948 at 9 :30 o' clock P.M. , notice of such meeting having been forwarded to each of such members giving the time and place thereof. There were present Kenneth C. Latham, Joseph D. Knight, Edward M. Halligan, M.D. , Harold B. Currell, Herbert G. Evans, A. Perry Glover and Harold W. Putnam, being all the members of the Law Committee. The Town Counsel was also present at the meeting. The Chairman called the meeting to order. Mr. Harold W. Putnam was duly elected Secretary pro tem for this meeting. The Town Counsel reported to the meeting the matter of the settlement of damages for the taking of land from Ralph Heselton for the proposed new High School in the vicinity of Birch Meadow. After discussion, it was Upon motion duly made and seconded, VOTED: That the Town Counsel be authorized to negotiate with Mr. Ralph Heselton for settlement for the land taken, including the buildings thereon, and to pay Mr. Heselton therefor a sum not exceeding $8500.00. 6. -2- Minutes of the Meeting of the Law Committee Held February 9, 1948 The Town Counsel also reported to the meeting that a suit had recently been commenced against the Town by the W. T. Grant Company for alleged damages resulting from the drainage of surface water into the store of the Grant Company in connection with the construction of the Municipal Parking Area. No action was taken by the committee in this matter. No further business being brought before the meeting, it was upon motion duly made and seconded, VOTED: To adjourn. Adjourned.
