A meeting of the Law Comittee was called this day at 7:45 P.M. ,
Messrs. Johnson, Leman and Putnam present. * The meeting was at once
adjourned until 9:00 P.2%. because of the forced absence of some of the
members. The adjournedmeeting met at 9: 30 P.M.
The Chairman, Pair. Leman, asked for nominations as secretary.
Mr. Putnam was nominated and elected secretary.
A letter received from Mare Wright recommending Orville Poland for
Town Counsel was read.
The business before the meeting being the appointment of the Town
Counsel was discussed, and it was. moved that the Town Counsel be asked for
*awn opinion on two questions. ( 1) If the by-law as written covers every
act that a Town Counsel might be asked to do. (2) Can the Law Committee
define the duties of the Town Counsel according to the present by-law with
the salary fixed by the Town and no extra compensation.
It was so voted.
The Town Counsel was then requested to attend the meeting. He did so.
He stated that if he were appointed he would do all the acts required, also
that the Lava Committee could not interpret the by-law but could define the
duties to be performed. . The Town Counsel was then asked if he would sign an
agreement to the effect that he would perform all acts required of him during
the year and, after answering in the affirmative, wrote such an agreement

Mr. Samuel H. Davis and Mr. Orville S. Poland were then nominated for the
` Law Committee Monday Evening, April 16, 1934.
position of Town Counsel. Mr. Davis was unanimously elected.
The meeting adjourned at 11:15 P.M.
