The Board met with William Hughes and John Pacino of the
Recreation Committee at 8 :30 P .M. to discuss the general mainten-
ance items to be considered for the upcoming year and to discuss
the long range recreation plan. Superintendent Louanis outlined
what had been accomplished with the funds obtained in FY-81 and
the intended use of the balance of the funds for the Glen Meadow
area in early spring. The A field at Birch Meadow and the adjacent one
will not be playable until late spring. The lights at the tennis courts
were discussed and it was the understanding of Mr. Hughes that all of
the lights were the some wattage so there is probably no problem.
The nets will be replaced and repaired and new lines painted early in
the spring. The basketball courts were discussed and the poor con-
dition of the Memorial Park and Birch Meadow facilities were outlined.
General cleanup and normal maintenance items for other facilities
were also discussed .
' The proposed long range park plan was discussed , as follows:
1. New playground equipment is the proposed funded amount of $10,000.
The .type of equipment and locations were not known but it was in-
dicated that the Recreation Committee would provide specifics to
the Board after the holidays.
2. The lighting of the Birch Meadowvarsity baseball at the pro-
posed funding level of $15,000.00. Superintendent Louanik
indicated that the estimatedfunding level was probably low
and that a plan of the area be given to the Light Department
for their expert advice and costs.
3. Resurface and repair the basketball court at Memorial and .
Washington in the proposed funding amount of $10,000. actual
coats for this work may be higher than the proposed budget
amount .
4. Refurbish softball fields in the proposed funding level of
$9,000.00. . It was discussed at length and basically felt that
the best way to refurbish the fields would be to do one per
season and take it out of play for the entire season.
5. Improve the lighted softball field at Birch Meadow for the
proposed funding level of $10,000. The work would include
two new light poles in the center field. The Recreation Committee
will provide a location for the proposed poles to submit to the
Light Department to obtain a more accurate cost. . Also planned
is the addition of bleachers for approximately 200 people.
The proposed projects total $54,000.00. The Recreation Committee
will get back to the Board of Public Works An ,ite priority projects
