HomeMy WebLinkAbout1980-12-15 Board of Public Works Minutes December 15, 1980 Meeting of the Board of Public Works convened in Room 16, Municipal Building at 7:30 P.M. Present were Secretary Wood, Board Members DeHart, Fallon, Barker, Clerk of the Board Louanis and Assistant Superintendent Bergeron. In the absence of Chairman Cowell, Secretary Wood assumed the Chair. It was moved , seconded and voted 3:0: 1 to accept the minutes of the meeting of December 1 , 1960 . It was moved, seconded and voted 4:0:0 to accept the minutes of the meeting of December 8, 1980 as corrected . It was moved , seconded and voted to sign commitment letter covering sewer frontage in the amount of $27,821.60, 30% sewer laterals in the amount of $8 ,404.35 and 70% sewer laterals in the amount of $505.33 to the Tax Collector in compliance with the pro- visions of the General Laws, Chapter 80, as amended by Chapter 63 of the Acts of 1933. The Board met with William Hughes and John Pacino of the Recreation Committee at 8 :30 P .M. to discuss the general mainten- ance items to be considered for the upcoming year and to discuss the long range recreation plan. Superintendent Louanis outlined what had been accomplished with the funds obtained in FY-81 and the intended use of the balance of the funds for the Glen Meadow area in early spring. The A field at Birch Meadow and the adjacent one will not be playable until late spring. The lights at the tennis courts were discussed and it was the understanding of Mr. Hughes that all of the lights were the some wattage so there is probably no problem. The nets will be replaced and repaired and new lines painted early in the spring. The basketball courts were discussed and the poor con- dition of the Memorial Park and Birch Meadow facilities were outlined. General cleanup and normal maintenance items for other facilities were also discussed . ' The proposed long range park plan was discussed , as follows: 1. New playground equipment is the proposed funded amount of $10,000. The .type of equipment and locations were not known but it was in- dicated that the Recreation Committee would provide specifics to the Board after the holidays. 2. The lighting of the Birch Meadowvarsity baseball at the pro- posed funding level of $15,000.00. Superintendent Louanik indicated that the estimatedfunding level was probably low and that a plan of the area be given to the Light Department for their expert advice and costs. 3. Resurface and repair the basketball court at Memorial and . Washington in the proposed funding amount of $10,000. actual coats for this work may be higher than the proposed budget amount . 4. Refurbish softball fields in the proposed funding level of $9,000.00. . It was discussed at length and basically felt that the best way to refurbish the fields would be to do one per season and take it out of play for the entire season. 5. Improve the lighted softball field at Birch Meadow for the proposed funding level of $10,000. The work would include two new light poles in the center field. The Recreation Committee will provide a location for the proposed poles to submit to the Light Department to obtain a more accurate cost. . Also planned is the addition of bleachers for approximately 200 people. The proposed projects total $54,000.00. The Recreation Committee will get back to the Board of Public Works An ,ite priority projects for FY-82. The meeting with the Recreation Committee ended at 9:45 P .M. The Board discussed the meeting schedule and set up meetings for January 5, 12, 19, 26 and a special meeting on January 8th to discuss all rate items. The Board signed the Bill Roll and the Payroll for the period , ending December 12th. The Board completed its walk-through of the Maintenance Budget and adjourned at 10 :45 P .M.
