Present were Chairman Barker, Secretary Hampson, Board Members Polychrones, Griffin and Boucher, and Superintendent A.U. Fletcher. Also present was Mr. Frank Corgone from the Finance Committee. Superintendent Fletcher gave Mr. Boucher a brief history of the trash collection contract problems. He also stated that in negotiations with Vinings lawyers, their lawyers stated they would look into a settlement of $26,000 - $30,000. Mr. McIntire and the Superintendent talked it over and felt that would he acceptable and would bring it to the Board tonight. This morning we got an offer of $39,000.00. He stated it is his strong opinion that providing they don't throw in the suggestion to use our influence to drop the criminal charges, that we should accept this offer. Douglass Barker stated we have a timeliness factor here regarding the bids. Superintendent Fletcher stated we have delayed the bid opening from tomorrow night to next Monday for the reason that this could compromise a deal made with the Hiltz Company. He added that he thought this was in the best interest of the community. Mr. Griffin asked what about the police investigation and legal fees? To what degree are we responsible for these charges? Mr. Fletcher replied we are not on the clock with Attorney Cohen. We will turn the $25,000 over to the General Fund and the Police Department can ask for their $5,000.00. Mr. Griffin stated he felt his settlement was on the short side, but can rationalize this because of possible interruption in services.
