HomeMy WebLinkAbout1964-10-05 Board of Public Works Minutes ' October 5, 1964 Meeting of the Board cf Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. in Room 16, Municipal Building. Present were Chairman Kenney, Secretary Cochrane, Board Members Leonard and Watt and Superintendent Welch. Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved. Read petition signed by homeowners in the vicinity of Ash Street and Shackford Road requesting installation of main sewer lines. The Board discussed the sewer program as axtlined for 196$ and 1966. Mr. Cochrane moved, Mr. Leonard seconded and it was voted that a letter be sent to Mr. Milano, first Lsigner on the petition, advising him of the 1965 and 1966 pro- gram, and due to the magnitude of money involved, it would be impossible to change the program at this time. The Board adjourned temporarily at 7:45 P.M. to meet as the Board of Survey. The Board reconvened at 8:10 P.M. The Board opened bids on one new Snow Loader as fol- lows: - Company Make Net Bid Barber-Greene Co. Barber-Greene Model 544 $17,400.00 H. F. Davis Tractor Co. Nelson Model 5-11 18,083.911 Bids were taken under advisement. Mr. Florence joined the meeting. Read letter from the Essex County Green Belt Associa- tion requesting that a representative be sent to meetings of the r� Ipswich River Council. The first meeting will be held October 20 at 8:00 P.M. at the Audubon Society's Ipswich River Wild- life Sanctuary. Mr. Leonard moved that the Superintendent handle the details, Mr. Watt seconded and it was voted. The Board conferred with Town Counsel in regard to the excavation at the Ipswich River. George Cochrane showed colored slides of the area. Legal aspects of the case were dis- cussed. Mr. Killam agreed it might be advisable for the Board of Public Works to insert an article in the Special Town Meeting Warrant of October 26, 1964 requesting funds to retain Consult- Ing Engineers to make a study of the possible effect on the Town ' of Reading Wellfield. Mr. Leonard presented to the Board his idea to pre- vent children from climbing the elevated water tank on Auburn Street. Mr. Welch will view the tank and see if the plan can be adapted for use on the tank. The Board considered the Refuse Disposal Study. It was agreed that a report d progress should be presented to the Townspeople based on the study received from Camp, Dresser & McKee. Signed Billroll dated October 2, 1964.
